Octy VRS alloys, 205/50/17 Tyres and -30mm drop

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

Im after some advice on replacing the standard 16" alloys on my 4x4 hatch with some VRS ones.

I have Koni top adjustables and eibach springs all round and was wondering if I would hit a problem fitting the VRS 17" alloys with the 205/50 aspect conti's that they have on them.

I *think* my suspension setup is supposed to drop the car -30mm but as mine is a 4x4 it was already a fair bit higher than a standard Octy to start with (let alone a VRS!)

Will these wheels go on with no rubbing?

And how comes the VRS doesnt have 215/50's fitted? Id have thought that would be the right tyre size moving up from my 205/55/16's.

All help would be greatfully received. :)

They'll be fine. A more appropriate size tyre when you come to change is 225/45/17, they also tend to be cheaper than 205/50/17, many vRS owners change to this size.

 As always Eddy - you are most helpful - thanks

However Im still surprised that the VRS comes with 205 width tyres! As you say, when its change time I'll move up a width or two.

Cheers,

Lee

The tyre size on the Octavia is a strange one as all the other cars based on the same platform (Leon, Golf, TT, A3, etc...) seem to use 225/45/17, I think the rolling radius is very close to 205/50/17. However I expect changing to 215/50/17 would push the rolling radius further out of tollerance.
