That is pure automotive porn!

It'd look better without all those cheap plastic strafes everywhere.

Look's perfect how it is.

its got a manual non electric hand brake!!

very nice, but the lights are too fussy and i don't like the black section on the sides

Its a smart roadster on steroids :D

As an option you can have full LED lights -- the car looks a lot better with them, I should think Audi will hope most will be ordered with them.

The strake on the side can be either coloured - or Carbon Fibre, real Carbon Fibre - not a tacky look a like.

It is certainly going to be important to spec the car correctly, both in terms of spec but also trim and colours.

I want one, dare I ask anyone any idea how much

Yes! It's that side bit - it was bugging me because I couldn't think where I'd seen it before.

Actually, I reckon it'd look quite good in black.

As usual with these things, the press are not always that correct..

Scheduled to open for UK ordering in late 2006' date=' with prices expected to start from around £77,000. The new ultra-high performance Audi R8 combines the time-honoured hallmarks of the best of the classic sports cars with futuristic construction, transmission and suspension technologies, all underpinned by the steadfast reassurance of the quattro four-wheel-drive system.

Mounted longitudinally directly behind the cockpit of the comparatively lightweight, 1,560-kilogramme aluminium-bodied Audi sports car is a high-revving V8 petrol engine delivering 420PS, and contributing to an exceptional power-to-weight ratio of 269PS per tonne. Spinning freely to its 8,250rpm limit, this acclaimed unit punches the R8 through the 62mph barrier in just 4.6 seconds and, in the right conditions, can carry it on to a top speed of 187mph – an unprecedented high for a road-going Audi.

It will be sometime before the V10 makes production, as it is felt it will be too much competition for the Gallardo. The Gallardo is due for a mild facelift at which point its power will be increased to all a bigger gap between the two cars, I suspect this will occur in time for 2008 model year introduction.

There is still wide speculation that Audi may well produce a diesel R8, although whether this would be the 4.2V8 or the 5.0V12 is as yet unkown.

One thing for sure is Audi are determined that their first journey into the world of the supercar will be a success.

The new R8 will be built at the Audi facility in Neckarsulm' date=' Germany – the centre of Audi aluminium construction expertise, and also the home of the brand’s quattro GmbH high performance subsidiary. A total of 15 cars will be built per day, each element of the production process being controlled and subjected to intense scrutiny by small teams of specialists.

They think they'll sell over 5,000 units a year!!!! Blimey.

That would be very cool. Imagine that loony V12 from the Q7 in that car...

Looks like the thing used in the I Robot film with Will Smith.

Nice

Yes very similar, Audi are keen to use the high level brakelight from that car, but have not been able to get it passed by the EU

If you dont remember - it was the audi badge at the back - it doubled as the h/l brakelight - very cool
