vrs to cosworth

Featured Replies

how many standard cossies are there around these days?

Probably a few. Most of the modified ones have probably blown-up or been crashed.....

and how fast does a chipped octy vrs do it then??

Really? I reckon the Subaru Impreza would eat a Cossie for breakfast

parkers reckon a standard Octy 1 vRS is 7.6...would a remap loose a second :o either way, it's still breakfast territory :(

and you don't think that an Impreza would be much better than a Sierra ?

Astandard blog eye impreza non-sti turbo will chew (rather than eat) a remapped 4x4 Octavia, wont it, Bengie ;)

A standard classic shaped WRX/STi would eat a Cossie for brekkie. 280+bhp and 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds ;)

A standard classic UK turbo would be be pulling away from a cossie. 208bhp and 0-60mph in 5ish seconds :D

Bug/Blob eyes are heavier and slightly up on power, so I'd imagine it would be closer, but still faster

Chris

yes in my experience against a fully prepared WRX driver knowing what everyone is there for the WRX is ever so slightly quicker than a remapped 4x4 estate.

and i'm pretty sure you would never 'feel' transmission losses tom :)

0-60 isn't everything, my car kills the same spec FWD off the line but on the move the FWD is probably a tad quicker due to longer gearing, less transmission losses and less weight

it's just that everybody raves on about parastic losess all the time.... does it really make much difference?? i dont think so

ooops I seem to have started a debate.......:o

yes they are...... a lot of people underestimate just how fast those old 'rattle boxes' are

I agree, my mate had a standard 2wd saph years ago, very very quick car, would leave a mapped vRS dead!!:D

bearing in mind when we say vRS we mean a real vRS and not the kiddy version ;)

and they aren't that much faster than a remapped octavia 1.8T!

and yes transmission losses can make quite a difference otherwise why would race teams go to the massive expense of carbon props etc that only last a couple of races but cost 10's of thousands??

a 4x4 car could easily have double the losses of its FWD equivilent so in something like our octavias my car might have a 50bhp loss compared to more like 25bhp ish on the FWD cars.

I think you'd be better off with an Impreza or an EVO 5/6

Far more reliable, superior handling and road holding as standard.

IMO No, I had an Impreza STi , sub 20 mpg, one blown engine, a few wheel bearings, Gearbox got noisy, about 6 months after I sold the thing it ate another Engine & Turbo & as for build quality, Ive never had so many rattles. OK it was an Import but never again

why would race teams go to the massive expense of carbon props etc that only last a couple of races but cost 10's of thousands??

simple! because they can afford it!!!

also tubular steel propshafts have a temdancy to explode and come through the bottom of the car when they get damaged and carbpn fibre ones just break up...

Nope, sorry, dont agree, a rwd saph or 3dr cosworth would win!! They feel alot faster too......mind you, thats probably down to the ratlles, wind noise, engine noise etc etc:rofl:

a fabia vRS feels very fast inside, not the case from the outside against 1.8T's:)

and we proved it.

i'm not knocking cossie's as i love them but the trouble is they were stupid fast in their day but that was 20 years ago!! things move on a lot in that time.

i couldn't aggree more..... i think cossies are the biggest bunch of $hite going.... you got to admit tho, they can still hold off some very modern and expensive fast machiney tho...:D
