Turbo worked for 2 days...

I changed my coolant sensor on Saturday morning, and since then it appears that my turbo has been working as it should (or certainly a lot more than recent weeks).

My dealer seemed to think that changing the sensor would have no affect - the car is booked in for a check up on Friday, so we shall have to weight and see (although I might cancel the checkup and see how it goes for a few weeks), however Sarah (awesome) suggested changing it would show a marked improvement....

That coupled with an aquaplane (sideways) this morning I am doing well!! :D

How does changing the coolant temp sensor help things? The CEL light comes on once every 2 weeks in our Octavia because of a faulty sensor. I just rest it and give the car back to SWMBO.

Perhaps I should change the sensor after all ?

The coolant temp sensor is a common part to fail.

They are approx £25.00 ish.

What it does is adjust the fuelling to suit the temp of the engine.

So if it detects that the engine is warm when in fact it is cold then it will underfuel.

If it detects that the engine is cold when it is warm it will over fuel.

I think that in most cases as it is a simple job and they dont cost much it is worth while replacing anyway.

All seems well at the moment - it has 100% success at the moment, but I had better give it a few more days!

My CEL light has never come on! - ever! I was not sure how changing it would, but for about

Only took me a couple of minutes - most of the time was spent trying to remove the connector block!. Just pull out a metal clip (with your fingers), pull the sensor out (coolant starts to pour out), push the new one in, put clip back in and reattach cable, and top up with a bit of water (or coolant). Just don't do it when the engine is hot!!! :eek:

Yep, mine just went recently, but me being a lazy git (and a numpty when it comes to mechanics)let JBS do it - didnt cost much really just 30mins labour and the part price which was as Sarah said above :)

Buy a new o-ring to go with it. I got mine from Skoda in the end (easier to collect!), but they told me a new o-ring was 11p+vat and then charged me about 78+vat. Thieves!!!

Goes nicely with my experience last Friday Matt; started to accelerate past someone, and the traction control cut in!
