Hello I'm planning to change the gearbox oil in my Octavia next week when I service it. I've done a search on the site and whilst I found a few tips, I didn't find anything conclusive. Basically I'm just wondering where you fill if from? And how do I know when the level is correct? The Haynes manual I have simply says "Refill the oil" .

The other think I would like advice on is this; I want to put the best oil I can in (synthetic) and was wondering if anyone had any recomendations. Is Slick50 worth a go??

Dont bother with Slick50, its snake oil. I use Silkolene Silktran Syn 5 in mine which has made the box feel much nicer. As for filling it, there is a tapered large grub screw that requires a 17mm allen key (or a M12 bolt head) to undo it. Its about 150mm from the bottom of the case right in front of the radiator, just to make it harder to reach. You just fill it up with oil on leveel ground until it runs out of the fill hole. I found it easier to fill from the top with a length of tube attached to the oil bottle, rather than trying to get the nozzle in the hole from underneath. Hope that all sort of makes sense.
