Trolley Jacks

Featured Replies

I lifted my octavia 4x4 using a trolley jack and a block of wood in order to access to front of the car to change the engine oil, what a performance the block of wood split under the weight of the car with the result that the flange along the side got slightly bent, I managed to get the axle stand under the side, and when it was lowered it nearly cut into the bottom of the floor! and as for that jack supplied with the car, I dont know what idiot designed it, it is a pity that the front of the octavia is designed so low that it cannot be run onto wheel ramps, what is the best way of getting under this model(back & front) without nearly bending it in half? as I like many others have no access to garage equipment that could be used to lift the vehicle.

I don't normally have any problems using a similar method to that which you describe. I've jacked a fair few Skoda's up over the past year too. Perhaps a stronger bit of wood? I've got some 12mm MDF that I cut into squares, ideally I'd like the rubber pad that you can buy to go on jacks but I've not seen one that fits mine yet.

Did you place the jack under the prescribed jacking point on the sill?

Dont bother using the sills and silly bits of wood.

Look under the car and you'll see a bolt where the engine sub-frame attaches to the chassis. Use that instead.

It looks a bit like this (picture shows a Fabia) : http://www.philgooch.com/octavia/jacking.jpg

Depending on your jack you may be able to get directly on the bolt head or you may have to use a block of wood to avoid the surrounding metal being crushed.

:iagree:

lift via the wishbone mounting about 12" into the car. works fine :)

Only snag is that you're then holding the car just where you'd like to put axle stands

How do you get round that one, bengie?

i put the axle stands next to the jack.

Ahh yes Mr Gooch, a flaw in your ever so cunning plan eh :P

Hence why I like to use the proper jacking point and the axle stand under the 'Console'

i put the axle stands next to the jack.

And rest what part of the car down on the stand ?

Get a Pela pump. You won't have to --ss about on the floor with a trolley jack.

Do a search on Google or eBay for Pela pump
