I don't really want to be in any car in a head on collision ;)

still shocking though. For such butch vehicle it crumples badly

Looks like there would one dead or at least seriosuly injured driver if you were to have an accident in one of those :(

Why do you think that is?

Lack of crumple zones or is the metal just rly thin?

I think it's just not distributing the impact around the passenger cell like modern vehicles are designed to so the front of the car takes the full impact.....

Crumple zones etc. are higher up, so they are missed when the vehicle crashes into a wall at normal vehicle height.

Thats a bit silly ...

Think about it for a sec. The crumple zones are designed into the vehicle as normal but, because of the ride height, they are above the impact point of a normal car and, therefore, of little use.

So what are they banking on you hitting then?!?!

Still silly imo - they should have been put lower in the car to be more effective.

Not all vehicles are suvs ya know ;)

There is no excuse for that kinna safty in modern cars - they should run tests ffs - they are ford after all!!!

Just make sure you hit another pick up, or a van. :D

All the above comments are precisely why people are not as safe in big 4x4's as they think. In the US market afaik vehicle like the F150 are classed as trucks and so do not have to meet the same US passenger vehicle safety regs. as a normal car.

They're also, AFAIK, one of the biggest selling vehicles out there too. I suppose that's one way to impose natural selection on the US ;)

Chris

Also there is a huge weight behind the cab - it looks like the flat bed part acts like a battering ram and crushes the cab. Huge design fault it seems...

Huge design fault

:agree:

These vehicles are work vehicles ie Trucks and aren't cars, hence by by legs.

Same thing would probobly happen with britains most popular big 4x4 the Discovery 1.

I'll stick in my octy thanks

yup

lots of lorry drivers have died over the years

as there's no need to waste money on protecting the driver

he's replaceable

i know that my dad (now retired) went to several early funerals of his trucking colleagues

What sort of speed would that have been carried out at? Bet it isn't that fast. To make matters worse, the vast majority of the americans don't wear seatbelts- they would rather rely on bigger airbags (and stomachs)...
