Removing STREAM HU in Octavia II 2006

Featured Replies

I have just got a new headunit and am unable to remove the current Skoda Stream?

Steps taken

1. Removed console trim

2. removed covers from the 4 corners of the unit

3. now have 4x screws to remove.

I thought these screws were T10 Torx.... so got my Torx screws and my T10 does not fit - appears to be too small

before i rush to B&Q any ideas ?

bigger torx driver :)

Mine are old an battered so have no idea of the size I used to do mine, I have got one of the old black and decker ratchet drivers with the interchangeable heads.

I would say head to b&q, grab one of them, end of future torx problems

I bought a Stanley driver with normal bits and a collection of Torx bits.

The size you are after is T20.

PS. Sorry If I'm a bit late.

Cheers guys - had to go to B&Q after and get a full set.

Turned out to be a T20

Stream HU out - MFD2 Nav in !

Will post some details later...

Funnily enough I have just had my MFD2 out after fitting it on Tuesday.

This was to add a stereo aux cable for the impending arrival of an ipod, so I get to keep my autochanger as well.

Once I am sure that all is well I will fit the new surround.

Does the AUX cable connect into the spare black rectangular connector.

Yes I think so Ray.

Looking at the link you posted earlier for a cable you could make one yourself for less.

I doubt I can make anything for less - that works !

The plug and wires for the back of the stereo will only be a couple of ££ and then two phono type connectors soldered on. Surely you could manage that.

I think the plug is 3B0 919 754 £2.95 Plus Vat and the wires are 000 979 018 £1.79 each which will give you two terminals for the plug.

Yes it does. If I were going to build a cabe from scratch I would prefer it presented as a 3.5 female mini jack.

I have included a couple of piccies I took while the unit was out.

Hope they help.

As stated elsewhere with the Dietz 1215 cable you only get sound when on Aux (A+V).

My craving for an ipod of some description makes me think this is a better idea.

What about going the whole 10 yards and retrofitting the Ipod interface that comes with all '07 Octavias ?

I asked the dealer about the latest Octys and it is not possible to order as a kit from Skoda and there is nothing to say that will work on a MFD2.

The parts guy said there was something available but not the actual plug + cable + mini jack socket. Plus jumbo box if you wanted to go the whole hog.

You could use a 2 RCA male to 3.5 female mini jack plus the Dietz 1215 cable. I personally have the Dietz 1215 plus a Qunex J2P poking out into the passenger footwell.

It's not an Ipod interface merely a 3.5mm jack - I have one.

There is an Ipod solution from Skoda but it's at the expense of a CD changer -

You can buy the centre console, pretty cheaply but you'd still need to make up a wired connection. The armrest is fecking expensive though so don't go thinking that would be a cheap upgrade if you don't have the jumbo!!

Cheers Stu but I have the Jumbo box. Not sure I fancy removing and replacing the whole console though. My mp3 player and accesories should arrive very shortly and I will be happy with that. I'll let you laugh at my attempts on thursday.

As an aside, I was wondering, if you replace the Stream in a 07 Octy what happens to the now standard Aux connection?

Is it part of the quadlock or something seperate?

Just wondered.... Perhaps you could enlighten me soon.... ;)

I think it would be wired into the quadlock mate. Probably utilising the Aux In connections.

You can buy just the 3.5mm jack bit that goes in the storage box.

The reason I remarked on the prices was that the whole centre console is £25 and yet the armrest and hinge is £250!! Both Plus VAT of course.

The Aux In Connector is 5J0 035 475 9B9 and the Cap for it is 5J0 035 605 9B9

There is no reason why these couldn't be mounted elsewhere in the car.

Cheers Stu.

That is pretty cheap. If I get fed up with my solution then I will investigate further.

It sits just inside the top ledge of the jumbo box.

I would think the airbag light would only come on if you pulled something off and didn't replace it.

I think running a cable fron the Quadlock to the Jumbo box may be fairly difficult.

When I was enquiring about running the GPS arial for the MFD2 came across a post suggesting the removal of the Glovebox.

When removing the glove box you must disconnect the airbag on/off switch generating the dash light to appear ?

Sorry to re-awaken this thread, but as I'll be having to pull out the stream to fit mfd2, I'd like to, at the same time if poss, fit a stereo aux input and have either phono pair or female jack (preferred) sit in the glovebox. After having read through this thread I'm still a little confused as to what I might need to order to get this done. Also, how much of a git will it be to get a wire into the glovebox...?

Well MrkyMrk, you could buy a Dietz 1215 from SatNav Systems this will get you stereo sound. Or you could by an AV cable for TV/PS2 etc, etc but a lot more expensive.

On the Dietz 1215 though the cable on the end is very short.

This connects to the black socket on the back of the MFD2 and has 2 female RCA-phono connectors (see piccies earlier in thread).

I use a 2 male RCA to 3.5mm male minijack and bring that out down by the cigartte lighter but you could run that into the glovebox via the vent.

Bear in mind you may wish to power it as well.

Good luck.

Brilliant - will order one of those.

Not sure why I might want power to it tho...?

For your ipod or generic mp3 player.

I'm a bit confused...

Do you mean adding a separate power connector (12v cigarette type) alongside the headphone into the glovebox?
