I think that Ian is referring to some sort of 12v supply to power your device.

Sounds like that's getting into more complex territory. Proper skills required :D

Pulling things apart, plugging bits in, I can do lego. I've never messed around like this in *any* car, tho.

On the issue of routing, and given the above statement ( :dunce: ), do you think it will be fairly straightforward to get a wire from back of HU to inside gloxebox?

It will almost certainly involve dropping the glovebox out, which shouldn't be too much of a problem. Do you deffo want the connections in the glovebox?

Do you deffo want the connections in the glovebox?

It's my vast preference.

The top cubby might be an alternative (drill hole, have a fitted socket) but I'm not sure if there's room for an mp3 unit+cable and also there's the direct sunlight issue. I'm also not sure about whether there would be enough room for the "business" end of the socket outside of the cubby and the durability of it for said use.

I'm going to ask another favour...

Stu - do you think you could get me the bits for making up the aux socket myself? £30 plus delivery seems a bit much from the website linked above. I'd rather risk a few quid on making my own. Just a couple of wires to solder, right? I'd ask my dealer but they were pretty stumped with my asking for an MFD2 surround (we did get there in the end thanks to your part number). No worries if not, mate, you've been very helpful so far!

Mark

Pretty sure I can provide you with the part number (Think I may have posted it already) and the connections, maybe if Ian has one it will have the number on it already. The other end is just two standard sockets that you could get from Maplin or the like.

I wasn't trying to disuade you from putting it in the glove box merrely trying to guage what you were trying to achieve etc.

Actually the connections are here -

AL - IN = Left Audio In

AR - IN = Right Audio In

I would think you'd need to connect the Earth as well.

Sorry guys mines installed and staying put as its been in and out too many times already and I don't remember a number on it.

Stu, what have you done with your MY 2007 aux connection. I know it caused interference on CD's but can you not buy the black plug (found above "Aux In Connector is 5J0 035 475 9B9 and the Cap for it is 5J0 035 605 9B9") and wire that to your AUX socket.

I don't really want it to be honest Ian. I don't envisage using it. It would be simple to connect as it's only the earth I have removed.

I would think you'd need to connect the Earth as well.

I have no clue as to what that means and damned if I'm not baffled with that diagram (sorry!!)

But hey, you guys have given me lots of great advice - I'm going to run this by my mate at work with his electronics degree!! He's been known to build some custom A/V cables so I'm sure I'll get there in the end...

And I have to say I am now pretty set on the idea of a fitted jack in the dash-top box - unless anyone here has any reasons as to why that might be a Bad Idea...?

When I screw it all up I know where to come crying, eh!

Cheers,

Are you just looking for a descreet iPod connection Mark or are you looking to add somthing else?

Discreet connection, Stu. I think a fixed jack socket in the top box will be a snazzy alternative to the socket in Jumbo as per '07 MY.

Once I get all the gear, my mate has a Hampshire based unit ( Auto Evolution - Independent Porsche Specialists ) - If he's got any space, I'll probably head down there do do the work indoors. How might I arrange access to VAG-Com to sort out error codes afterwards...? And what would I owe you? :D

And I also just wandered into the Talex thread - going to look further into tidiest possible fitment there...

I'll PM you my number.

Nothing mate

That feels so one sided!!!!

It's just take, take, take!!

Much appreciated, Stu.

The first two I did took power from the switched live on the Climate control panel. More investigation has yeilded a very nice method of taking switched 12v from the fuse panel via a seperate fuse.

So...

If I order:

1x Plug: 3B0 919 754

2x Wires: 000 979 018

1x Connector: 5J0 035 475 9B9

1x Cap: 5J0 035 605 9B9

I would have all I need to recreate the '07 MY Aux in (but I'll be putting in dash-top box, not jumbo)?

Thanks (yet again!)

ps MFD2 had an attempted delivery today but there was no-one about...

Am I right in thinking that the "aux in" approach will only output sound?

I have read the Dension Ice Link information, and a standard Aux In would not display ID3 Tag / track information - whereas I believe the CD Changer replacment would get this ?

I have been to Halfrauds today, and they do the Ice Link with Active cradle for £150 fitted - really wondered if they could fit to my jumbo box instead of on a dash mount.... so i dont have to take it with me when I pop into the supermarket.

VW offer an Ipod kit that fits into the armrest - don't if it could be put into the Octy II.

As for the Ipod in the Jumbo, I don't think it would be worth it as I doubt the cradle would be much use in there, why not use the OEM version and plug into the glovebox or see if you can reach to the jumbo with it.

All this talk of ipods....I'm thinking of getting one. So would I be right in saying that nobody has found a way to hook up the Ipod to the Stream sterio of the earlier models ?

Gaff,

I believe you can buy an Ipod kit from Skoda but it replaces the autochanger.

This also applies to an MFD2 however in addition an MFD2 has an AUX input which you can utilise for an Ipod connection and keep your autochanger.

Similar to the 07MY Streams in the vRS's but they can't help when you're lost.:)

I don't have an Auto Changer. Any idea of Part Numbers ? Any idea if it definitely fits the stream.

Btw I thought it was the Audience that connected to the Auto Changer.

How can you have a vRS without an autochanger? You have looked in the boot, right? :)

Ah.

Well the the iPod interface on Stu's site has no downsides then :)

(except more cash required...)

If you connect anything to the AUX port I dont believe it passes the ID3 tag details to the head unit...

If i lose the CD Changer, who cares when you can get 4GB, for instance, on the new Ipod Nano, which compressed will be more than 6 CD's that i can get in the changer.

I was thinking I want to be brand independenent, and I also want whatever I have to be totally concealable.

And cheap!!

iPod interface is tempting, as an iPod is probably what I'll end up with anyway, but the price...
