Gear Changes

Featured Replies

Hi need some help, when I go to put my car a felicia 1.3 L in gear I have trouble putting her in 2nd, really fighting me sometimes and also in R, many times gets that weird noise then crunch when i do get it there on Reverse. 2.4 & R all seem a little sticky, what can I do about it?

the first thing to do is make sure the the gearlinkage is nice and tight, after that check the gear linkage bushes....... onther than that, it's a skoda, what do you expect?? thier gearboxes have never been any good!!

Try the following

Crawl under the car and locate the connecting rod as they need greasing every now and then so shove as much as you can around that area, then have another go.

You havn't whacked the bottom have you? this could also explain it!!

It could also just be your clutch cable needing adjusting so try this also as gearboxes on Felicias don't tend to give any problems to my knowledge

Our felicia always "grrrrunches" going into 2nd on the way back down the box- no wonder, its used as a brake:thumbup:

As said above- check all the linkages are greased, also try checking the level on the gearbox oil level

I will try these , I am putting it in for a service before the winter hopefully the guys at the garage can have a little look as I havent bought a manual for the car yet. Thanks guys its appreceited

This sounds like the same problem I had...if yours is the facelift model?

Part of the gear linkage failed......

There is a small 'T' shaped piece which has a pivot bolt on one end and a ball joint on the other end. The ball joint failed which makes the gears stiff when pulling the stick back - i.e. 2,4 and R.

I solved mine, to my satisfaction (cheaply), by removing the nut on the pivot bolt, replacing with a Nyloc nut and tightening to the point where the gear change was not too loose, or too stiff.

This was about a year ago and it's still seems OK but ideally the gearlinkage needs renewing. It's possible the faulty 'T' piece could be replaced but may be more economical to replace the complete linkage.

This may not be the same problem but certainly sounds like it.

From my experience at the dealership old Skud boxes are far more reliable than these new fangled VW derived units.Just ordered a 1.2 Furby box for a 55 plate car seeing as it has a large hole in it ! As for duel/twin mass Occy's....give me old any day ! Back to topic, grease on bottom bolt under gear lever is a good start, how about clutch cable adjustment ?

I was under the car today checking a couple of things so thought I would take a snap of the part of the gearlinkage that has failed on mine.....photo attached.

Reference to my quote above....

The small balljoint that failed is arrowed [1]....not in sight but a bit further up.

The pivot nut I replaced is arrowed [2]

As I say this may not be the same fault but this is where the problem is on mine.

Fine tuning the tightness of this nut can make the gearchange acceptable if cost of replacement is too expensive.

By the way....M8 Nyloc nut needed to replace the original.
