Newbie - Considering changing from a CTR to a Fabia VRs

will prices be fallling anytime soon? and new models in the pipeline etc?

the clio 172 cup and ctr are identical up to 100, then the ctr may get ahead by a couple of car lengths into stupid speeds, but its all so close to choose from.

trouble with the ctr you have to keep the power high up and coming out of junctions and corners that gets very tiring, luckily my ctr aint standard and the mods ive done have been proven to produce torque increases, but i really want to try a vrs to experience what potential it has.

just a note i cruise at speeds of around 60-70mph and a little higher on motorways so im not bothered about track speeds etc as i never will go on a track to be honest, just real world speeds.

I came from an S2000 to a vRS, don't regret it other than I preferred the driving position in the S2000 & miss RWD. The Fabia gives me a bad back (and of course is FWD).

Just before you sell the CTR though do one thing....

Take the lid off the airbox, secure the air filter, and drive under a bridge or thru a tunnel. Believe me the sound is great when you hit VTEC.

I've had a CTR and we currently have an Ibiza PD130 as my wife's car. Changing from a CTR to a Fabia vRS is not something I would want to do unless I really had to. The CTR has much more grin factor in every respect but economy. The CTR handles better, has a superb gearbox, a driver focused engine, sounds good, looks good, etc...

If the financial side is the only reason for your change then why not buy a cheaper car like a ITR or 182 for example and the saving will more than pay for difference on your fuel bill.

Jam, some facts and figures for you based on my change from a 2litre 16v calibra to a vRS.

For a 2 litre my calibra was surprisingly good on the motorway, returing around 40mpg but combined with town driving and a bit of fun on the twisties it dropped to 30.

On average i'd get 360-380 miles on a tankful (400 if i drove like a granny). An average fill up would be 55 litres....

55 / 4.546 = 12.098 gallons.

380 / 12.098 = 31.4 mpg.

(there's 4.546 litres to a gallon, i refuel aircraft at work so have to know this kind of stuff!!)

The fabia will do 360-380 miles on a til the fuel light comes on (and that horrible beep!!!). I usually end up filling up at 280-290 miles because of the motorway driving i do (you can't fill up on the hard shoulder now can you!!) so......

Average fill up at 290 miles is approx 26 litres.

26 / 4.546 = 5.719 gallons

290 / 5.719 = 50.7 mpg!!!

Or look at it annother way.....

55 litres x 86.9p = approx

Another comment from the owners who have defected from CTR's and Scoobys to the little furby Vrs, is , in order to maintain the urgency, the petorl engine noise can become tiresome, having to keep the high revs in order to keep the power in over medium to long periods.

Really? I never found the flat four burble of my decatted Scooby tiresome even on 5 hours journies. Much better than the diesel clatter ;)

Chris

Using those figures and assuming that the OP does approx 250miles a week he would only save

The biggest cost that needs to be always considered by anyone when purchasing a car is the depreciation this can far outweight any fuel savings/insurance savings. Remember on the news over the weekend the RAC have calculated that on average if anyone buys a new car the annual running costs are
