New vehicle rejection - Dilemma

Featured Replies

Keeping it simple.

  • Bought new Skoda.
  • Problem noticed with bodypanel day after.
  • Dealer agrees there is a problem and proceeds to fix by means of making adjustment.
  • Agree in writing to dealer that 'no body work resprays' will be done in or to fix.
  • Four attempts later car it back and they have resprayed a wing and door in order to fix the problem.
  • Phone dealer to inform or rejection to which they 'no way'
  • Letter to dealer to reject.
  • Phone call from dealer saying as a good will gesture they can provide two options

  1. New identical car within two weeks but as it has £400 of extras which I would have to pay for. The extras are pointless to me and relate to a sound system upgrade (cd changer) which I do not want.
  2. New identical car but would have to wait 3 months for delivery.

  • With both options I will have a transport by them provided.
  • Tried to negotiate a shorter period for delivery but they say there are none available.
  • Wanted to the extras as a good will gesture for all my hassle to date - they didn't entertain that.

I'm personally of the opinion to reject seeing as they have shafted me about so much this far. I know they are providing these options but they aren't ideal, either cost me money or mean I have to wait for ages and drive around in a crappy courtesy car.

What would you do?

I don't see what your problem is really!

You get a new car, with audio upgrade, and keep yours until the new one arrives.

Either way you are on to a winner surely??

Sorry pal... my mistake, amendments required - they require me to pay for these

Personally to get the whole saga behind me I would tell them that I would pay £200 towards the extra options as I had not requested them and that half the cost would be the least they could offer in this situation. Also why not try and contact Skoda UK ( god knows they read these forums for all the wrong reasons! ) and see what they can do?

Plus is if you have another Skoda garage near by I would take the car there in the future.

Still,

Accept the new car, and try to kill yours in the meantime.

It will be a good way of learning the handling limits and performance levels without having to worry about replacing tyres or a clutch.

By the sounds of it the garage have fullfilled their obligations by offering you a replacement car. I agree that it is a tuff one about the CD changer, I think if you got them to accept the £200 then it would be a good deal on your part.

Failing that go for the new one.

You would be stupid not to take the offer. No offense intended. Over the period of 3 months 400GBP I would feel will boil down close to nothing.

I'd be rejecting and looking elsewhere - if they go back on their (written) word once, what's to stop them doing it again? :D

Chris

I dont see what you're complaining about (even if you are?) because they HAVE offered an idential replacement. I dont see what else they could do because they wont be able to magic an identical car from thin air and it'll have to be treated as a new car order by the factory.

The toaster annaology is a good one - if you were in that position with a toaster and couldnt get an identical one you'd get a refund and go into another shop.

Whilst rejection is possible it seems silly...

I personally would take the free lease car for 3 months (yours) and drive it like I stole it then take a brand new one the same

Dealers been pretty fair on the face of it

have a chat with the Citizens Advice, Im currently about to take action & they have been very helpful witha few things I never thought of

Also if you have to take the extras can you then take them through the small claims for the 400 squid you should not of had to pay.

Also ring around other dealewrs in the UK to see if any have the one you want in stock or in Skodas compound, dealers are I believe duty bound to help each other where possible

Even if you choose to wait 3 months and run a courtesy car then its 3 months of free motoring and will put your 'new car' into 2007 on the log book making it a year newer come resale. iyswim. Think the dealer is being very fair, they have to try and repair your car, they have failed to do so to your satisfaction, and are offering a full solution, without details can't comment on the need to respray. hth
