95.4 mpg recorded!

Featured Replies

I took a trip up to the NEC for the classic car show and on the way back stuck to 60mph, the trip was about 90 miles and the trip computer recorded 95.4 mpg!

Now I know that 06 Vrs trip computers are completely inaccurate but it still equates to amazing economy. It usually displays between 54 & 60 for a tank which is usually about 44 & 48 respectively when calculated properly. It is over reading by 22% by my estimation so today I achieved about 75mpg - you should have seen the cloud when i had to overtake someone!

There's two MPG screen's on the Trip computer. Sure it was the correct one you were reading? I'm not doubting you, i'm just curious.

Just made a return trip from home to Tiverton/Devon and back again this weekend. Managed 59MPG average for the 300+ miles, which I thought was pretty good. Octy 2.0 TDi.

It was definately the average MPG screen I was looking at, its a shame I forgot to take a picture before I filled up at the end of the trip. The average just kept going up&up, I managed to turn a 47mpg tank into 57mpg recorded in 180 miles (47 real).

Im annoyed that I couldnt work out what the real mpg was for the trip as all I have are estimates. From memory I achieved 60mpg on a trip where the computer measured the MPG to be almost 80 so my figures shouldnt be that much out, im confident that its north of 70mpg.

Have you got a "cheap" tuning box attached (the ones that fiddle the fuel temp signal causing over-fueling) ? I put one on mine for awhile and the trip mpg started to be very optimistic (59+mpg). Normally the my trip is very accurate - I tested it by the brim to brim method. I get 45-47mpg commuting to work normally. The best I got at motorway speeds was 52mpg - I didnt hang around. I did get it down to 39mpg once. Mines a standard engine by the way.

From what I gather im far from the only one with an optimistic trip computer&my car is standard. I check mine brim to brim on every tank, a best of 60mpg but generally about 47mpg these days.

Whenever anyone posts good economy (it doesn't matter if you calculate it the old fashioned way) - the lead boots brigade will call you a liar.

The best I've achieved is just short of 60mpg. However this was cruising between 70 and 80mph. I'm very impressed with the 95.4mpg, you must have been driving in ideal conditions (ie down a long hill with a following wind!!).

SWMBO could aways return mid 70's mpg from my Fabia, but I rarely saw over 50mpg. I did arrive everywhere a lot quicker than she did though ;)

Well I know Brum is north of here but im not sure about that! Although I only recorded 80mpg on the way. 100mpg must be achievable&I would love to know what it actually equates to. Back to 57mpg today so more like 46, ohwell!
