Expensive commute! Advice needed...

Have you tried FMS Spares Tom? FMS

I got my ST170 wheels from them for my old Focus (Zetec). They're the biggest Ford breakers in the country IIRC. Failing that have you tried Trevor at Ford Parts UK. If you HAVE to buy gen parts new, that's where I'd go: Discount ford parts-genuine ford parts at FordPartsUK - fast delivery too.

Good luck

Every council is tight when it comes to paying out money...

Hampshire CC wasn't ;) Although it helped to know a few people inside who could give you the quickest claims procedure to actually get things done :D

Lol, I used to do highway inspections, and still fill in the odd engineers report form. Its just when it comes to the finance side, they are sooooo stingy!

For principal roads the defect has to be 20mm deep and greater than 0.1m2 area for it to be a "cat1" defect. These should be repaired within 24hrs of reporting. This depth goes up to 50mm for non-principal roads.

LOL @ Measure the pothole with a ruler... No chance.

Cheers for that. I have emailed them both.

Definitely want a genuine brand new one, it was quite kerbed anyway and was due a refurb. Am nearly tempted by a pair tbh, as the other 2 are as-new.

It goes in on Weds, I'm sure the flywheel is toast, and the wheel bearing is getting noisier by the day. Will be like a brand new car when its all done!

Right, new wheel arrived courtesey of Trevor at Ford Parts UK (nice one fella  ) at the cost of £112 posted. Not bad considering ford wanted £125, and its genuine and new. Came with wheel nuts and valve too! :)

However, the tyre that was on has cracked sidewalls due to being run when flat... So I either need one Conti Sport Contact or a pair of something else. :thumbdwn: This is too bloody expensive for my liking.

If your budget cant stretch to 2 decent tyres now, just buy 2 budget tyres to keep things going. You should be able to get 2 for the price of one conti.

Mich energy work well enough on the focus and last for ages, (circa 40k miles), other tyres do ahve a bit more grip but unles syou are hanging it into corners hard all the time i doubt you would notice.

What about putting your spare on the new rim (or did you get the space saver i forget, but ours has full size).

There is some budget tyre that ford dealer recomended on a fiesta, that i have to say is supprisingly good and only £15 each (albeit at a smaller size)

other tyres do ahve a bit more grip but unles syou

Someone went to the pub at lunch?

I do drive really keenly on occasions, enjoying the excellent handling - so budget tyres aren't really an option tbh.

My tyres and Blackcircles havent really come up with a reasonable enough option, going to ring my local tyre guy right now. :D

Budget motoring comes at a cost! :thumbdwn:

My local guy has come up trumps as usual! Little garages like this are too far and few between imho.

£98 all in for a Sport contact W rated. Thats cheaper than mytyres and black circles! I'm glad I've got an identical one as its pair is also nearly new.

See my review in the reviews section.

In short, yes, very nice handling indeed. :)

But not as good as the Mondeo according to a man in the know ;)

Sorry Chris, but I have to disagree 100%. I thought the Mondeo was good, especially for its size, but even with the 145bhp petrol lump it wasnt as quick as my Focus on my "control" road. ;)

The Mondeo doesn't feel as precise, the steering isn't as well weighted, or as chuckable, and also it doesn't have the same level of grip. Still good, just not as good as the Focus, imho.

Has that man actually driven your Mondeo, though Chris? (and do you think he's the sort of driver who is able to exploit minor differences in handling?)

I would imagine he is.....

Yes and yes ;)

From past experience, the council will quickly pay out a reasonable amount to rectify damage caused by one of their potholes and then fix the pothole. I'm assuming that there will be no problems claiming, even though you work in Highways, as you'd still go through the normal claims procedure?

Chris

I managed to get a new wheel and 50% of a tyre out of Walsall's crappy council a few years back.

Any car could split an alloy if hit hard enough though!

we've had a new Mondeo in work this week , its currectly being driven by a german bloke who works for Jaguar , he was using the Satnav and was instructed to take the next left iirc , he drove up a kerb  , totally destroying 2 , 18" rims , dents about 2" in rim and cracked/split further into the centre , funny thing was though , the only suspension damage was to a rear shocker caused by the rim damage catching it before he stopped , looked silly on 2 spacesavers :D
