what is my engine

Featured Replies

as the title suggests, does anyone out there know which engine my 1.6 is derived from, and which other cars use it? hope you can help.

I believe it's the VW Polo, correct me if i'm wrong

the 1.6 felicia's have a vw engine wit han aee code, they are fitted to just about every model in the vag range..... polo/mk3 golf/ibiza/vento/etc etc..... they are a terrific little engine too, nearly bulletproof, easily tuned up for extra power!

thanks teflon. what do you suggest tuning wise? i'm doing the induction and a de-cat, but what else could be done? thincking cams etc......

de-cat is a waste of money, induction maybe you might gain a little, but you really need to look at 'proper' stuff like manifolds and cams and cylinder head porting to get any real gains from it..... the other possibility is to swap the head for the 16v one but that isn't easy

I dont know the 1600 engine very well, the 1300 skoda engine gains 10% from a decat pipe, both according to skodas figures and my own back to back testing on a rolling road with my rally car.

But I dont know if the 1600 is less responsive to exhaust changes. Id be very surprised by any engine being more responsive to a manifold change than a decat. But heck Ive never been a fan of anything VW that isnt aircooled.

yeah a decat on a 1.6 felcia is fine so long as you dont want to pass it through an MOT test, i'm not saying you wont gain anything from fitting a de-cat, it's just not worth it

Depends on emissions, the 1.3 skuds pass an mot no problem without their cats :D, the emissions are so good that they pass a cat emissions test without a cat present :D

The presence of a cat is not a requisite for an mot regardless of cars age. Only the emissions levels are again not being a VW person I have no idea how efficient the 1.6 engines are without the cat.

My rally favorit passes the cat emissions test despite being 16 years old and running carbs and not cat :D Thats some good efficiency

i'm a fabricator, so the plan is to cut the cat out and weld in some flanges so as it can be bolted in/out, and make up a pipe to use the same flanges.

so come mot, in with the cat. 10min post mot, out goes the cat and in goes the de-cat.

best of all its not guna cost a penny!
