And 70 mph in second

WHAT?!?!?! That must be about 8K revs?????? Redline is 6.5!!

(enough punctuation?)

Is that 60 on the speedo or GPS because mine wont hit 60 (GPS measured) until well into the red!.

Over 60 on the speedo, must go to 60 really too, as the gtech meter clocks 60mph, and gives me my 0-60 time. Not looked at the GPS, and the speedo, and the GPS all at the same time. I dont feel the need to look at the revs, as it has a > REV LIMITER < all cleverly built in so the engine doesn't over rev. Obviously it's your car, and if you don't want to go to the redline thats fine, I'm just slightly confused by it. It loves it. It's a vRS, it was made to go quickly etc.

I'm sure someone mentioned a re mapped one would do 80.

I would have thought the Mk II would do 70 in second.Maybe not from the above

For what it's worth, decided to look into the Autocar quotes.

Warm review, strange results:

Skoda Octavia Hatchback 2.0T FSI vRS 5dr - Road Test Summary - Autocar Online

The numbers bit:

For evidence look no further than the in-gear times: the old car needed 9.1 seconds to travel from 50-70mph in fifth; the new model takes 7.7 seconds in sixth or just 6.1 seconds in fifth. It is disappointing, then, that we found the Octavia

Interesting that the review mentions the sound of the car. Evo have a long term vRS and have asked for readers to email in with suggestions of a replacement exhaust for improved sound.

They need one like mine :) And a neuspeed induction kit :)

Doesn't the golf have some sort of (performance-sapping?) addition purely to make it sound sweeter?

Get them emailed then, I post up the guys address tonight if you don't have it. It would be good to get Briskoda mentioned!

RE- power outputs of the TFSi engine (i know i have blundered into this a bit late)

I read that when Nissan are preparing power figures for an engine, they will test a sample (say 10) and then quote the lowest figure out of the sample.

Mazda got rogered in the US when they launched the RX8, as there was a last minute spec change which lowered the power output, but the literature did not reflect the change, so when people were dyno testing their car before tuning, the bhp shortfall was being picked up

I think it is standard practice in the car industry to quote bhp figures that are lower than the actual output of the engine.

I know I would be miffed if I dynoed my vRS and it did not put out very close to the quoted 197bhp.

The guy's name is Chee-Chiu Lee email address, [email protected]

Emailed him about 2 weeks ago mentioning briskoda and copyed and pasted the links to shifty's exhaust thread, and one of Makefish's

wouldn't hurt for him to get a few more emails mentioning briskoda :D

With regard the second gear maximum spead, I'm damn sure that mine hits just over 70 in second at the rev limiter!

I'll have to try it on the way home tonight and see what the talex gps says but I'm certain it does (and about 105-110 in third, on a private road of course, ahem. )

Could this mean my mk1 vrs is pushing out more than 180 bhp or am I just lucky???

And for the record my old 1.8 escort used to do an indicated 62 in second (before I had gps) and I know the vrs trounces that figure good and proper before I need to change gear :) .

More power won't give you any more speed in 2nd or 3rd, it'll just get there quicker.

Mk1 deffo has a longer 2nd than the MK2, tho.

Would that be cos it's a 5 speed?

Yeah - MK1 was five speed. MK2 box is closer ratio.

Ah that would probably explain it

I'll still try and see what it'll do later anyway :)

Quick update for anyone who's interested :) - my mk1 vrs will indeed do 68mph on the gps, indicating 72 in second gear at the rev limiter!

Haven't had much chance to pace against anyone else really so can't comment on how well it performs but it feels flaming quick to me:thumbup: .

Regards,

Matt

Bring it to Weston Super Mare on Saturday, there will be plenty of selection there to 'pace' against ;)

Unfortunately no can do - SWMBO would hit the roof and as she's contributed significantly financially to the purchase I ain't gonna upset her!!! :D

Already mentioned the local meets idea and was met with that look that says "over my dead body - you're not going racing" - although she did say I could take her corsa, kinda pointless for a skoda meet really

Plus I've been to weston plenty of times and I like my license just fine the way it is  .

I doubt your car is 220bhp standard however a difference of 25bhp between the cars in question would hardly be noticable on the road especially when the highest speed hit was 70mph.

Seemingly the VAG 2.0T engines made from Sept 2005 onwards and with an engine code beginning BWA regularly put out nearer 220bhp.
