Finaly tracked down anoying dash "bzzzz" noise. This can help the others

Featured Replies

I was after one anoying "bbzzzzzzzzzz" noise when accelerating, comming from somewhere arround my dash. It was one week looking (listening) arround with help of some friends. Final conclusion confirmed by few people who were sticking their ears part by part on my dash while accelerating, was the lower right corner of my Audience. Took the Audience out. It was hell as I have the phone support that doesn't let you take the fascia off. So first opening the phone support, dimounting it, then fascia out etc. etc. On the end I put two T-shirts in the hole where HU was, sticking them deeply wherever was possible. Result: same noise from the very same area. It was whole day work with no result. Put everything back and noise kept getting worse. One day on my way back from the work noise showed up and stayed whole the time, independent of accelerating. So, instead of going home, took a long ride arround (3 hours), touching every single part I could reach and finaly found out what was making the noise. Such a simple, stupid thing, and it even wasn't in the area where me and other people swore it was.

On the top of the rear view mirror there is the short tube running the cable for rain sensor and electrochromatic mirror. The tube makes the noise as it touches the windshield and incredibly it just hangs there. It's not glued anywhere or connected. It surrounds the cable but it hangs freely. So, whenever the noise comes, I just hold the tube and it's gone. But yet, noise is heard from the radio area but it actualy comes from that piece of tube. It's incredible how the sounds travels down by the windshiel and to the dash. That's why we were looking for the source in the dash.

Next step will be simple: just tiny piece of double sided tape to stick the tube to the windshield.

So much trouble for such a simple thing, but at least the noise was tracked down.

I hope this helps somebody else too.

I have heard similar stories where a noise appears to be eminating from one part but actually turns out to be somewhere totally unrelated to the focal area of the sound. Strange thing 'noise' :rubchin:

I had a month of a buzzing noise, which really got on my wick.

I put a bulb in my ashtray a month earlier, that i had to get a replacement for. With the engine ticking it caused this to make a buzzing noise against the ashtray side.

I could have swore it was from my steering colum though. The buzzing traveled.

My parking ticket holder is buzzing at the moment - that's gonna have to be sorted, it's bugging me.

Annoying that isn't it stu.

I found a little foam self adhesive pad on it works wonders :)

This happened to me. I thought the noise was coming from the passenger side air vent, My sone said it was coming from driver side air vent. Finally it was my sun glasses up on the roof holder.

I sorted mine unintentionally, was cleaning the screen inside and the thing snapped off. Thankfully cleanly and you cant see where it was.

I have 2 rattles, one is coming somewhere from the rear passenger side, and the other is the bottom of the A pillar, but only on certain road surfaces.

I took apart most of my dashboard only to find that the noise I was after was actually the handbrake release button!

Mine is to do with my old Primera GT - also swore blind it was inside the dash or glove compartment. Packed lumps of foam rubber everywhere without curing it.

It was the glass in the rear view mirror buzzing! Touch it with a finger and it stopped instantly. Just ran a bit of clear glue inside the edge at one point and that was the end of it.
