Octavia II - Sticking Brake Lights

Featured Replies

I'm new here & don't really know my way around so apologies if this has been asked before.

The brake lights on my 2005 (32k miles) Octavia II (1.9PD Elegance) have come on overnight for the last 2 nights. This happened once before when the car was new.

On all 3 occasions the weather was at (or below) freezing but don't know if that is relevant.

Has anyone any ideas before I toddle off the the main dealer?

Brake light switch at a guess.

Go poke your dealer about it as I think it is a known issue on a certain number of Octy II's and a batch of switches.

Welcome to briskoda by the way.

Thanks for the response and the welcome  - sadly, this morning, it had happened again & this time the car was dead (battery absolutely flat).

(Very) nice man from AA came within 20 mins of my call  & started it up but wasn't too sure about the cause of the brake lights staying on until I showed him that they went off if I hooked my foot under the brake pedal & forced it up. At that point he suggested sticking switch too.

Took it down to the local dealer "never had that before today but we have just had a Superb brought in with the same problem". Suggested what the AA man had said & left them to it. Collected it this afternoon, complete with new switch - also got a thank you 'cos they had fixed the Superb the same way.

Gald we helped you out.

It is amazing what skoda dealers "have never seen before guv" isn't it.

*grin* I am sure if you asked my dealer, they would claim they had never even seen my car before ;-)
