So far only a few minor things have gone wrong on my 05 vrs:

1. When i first got it the rear o/s speaker was faulty, replaced under warranty

2. The rear n/s seal i noticed yesterday whilst cleaning has started to leak. will mention it @next servie in a few hundred miles.

3. Puzzlingly my car seems to like to listen to music without me. It happened a few times over the summer the cd player just turned itself on. Odd? yes! i just assumed the heat was expanding and contractiong the plastic till it happened again last week! another one for the service.

4. This is my favourite. Start of august, cars done approx 16.5K and the turbo decides to kamikaze itself @70mph. Boy was i happy sitting @side of road for an hour. Replaced under warranty.

However even with all that i'd still buy another one wehn the time comes. The service i've recieved has been exceptional, my local dealer has sorted everything out. And they even put up with me ringing em daily for updates when the turbo failed! At the end of the day a car is made up of hundreds of complex moving parts. It would be unnatural for something not to break!

If that's only a minor thing, I'd love to know what a major problem is ;)

Chris

I'm happy with my car. I've had a few issues with it but I've paid the expenses bearing in mind how I used to drive and now keep in mind that being 3.5 years old with 120,000kms on the clock, problems once in a while is not a bad thing. The dealer here are fantastic, so I'm always confident in knowing whatever happens, they'll be there to get rod of the problem.

Blimey, where do I start! i'll give it a go but I know i'll have forgotten a few things!

Also makes me laugh, some of the things people consider to be 'minor' problems, like a turbo:confused:

Anyway, purchased a Brand new 53 plate Superb 130pd and in no specific order -

1.Supplied new with dented sill, kerbed alloy and sticking drivers side rear door (door never fixed despite repeated attempts, suspect twisted chassis) Great pdi then!

2.Alternator replaced

2.Headlight Switch replaced

3.Electric window switches in driver door replaced

4.Tensioner replaced

5.Lower dashboard (complete) replaced

6.Rear passenger door electric window loom replaced

7.Drivers seat base replaced

8.EGR valve replaced

8.Driver seat back replaced

9.Pulley replaced

10.Boot hinges replaced (still stiff)

11.Boot leaking, seal replaced (still leaked)

12.Steering angle sensor replaced

13.ABS control module replaced

14.Wheel sensors replaced

15.Interior door handles replaced

16.Interior door pulls replaced

17.Indicator switch replaced

18.Hazard lights switch replaced

19.Indicator switch replaced (again)

20.Wiper switch replaced

21.Steering wheel replaced

22.Steering rack replaced

23.Water pump replaced

24.Oil pump replaced

25.Air intake pipework replaced

26.A/C Blower replaced

27.A/C Compressor replaced

28.A/C Pulley (clutch?)replaced

29.Lower Arms replaced (at to low a mileage to be wear and tear)

30.Upper arms replaced (at to low a mileage to be wear and tear)

31.ARB replaced (at to low a mileage to be wear and tear)

32.Engine cover replaced

33.Undertray replaced

34.Rear brakes replaced (didn't cure horrific noise when braking in reverse)

This is about half the list, I cant remember the rest of the top of my head, I'd be interested to know how much that lot would have cost including labour to put right!

Some issues are currently in the hands of the solicitors, as Saltdean Garage have closed, It's Skoda UK who are being sued (with the full backing of citizens advice and trading standards)

My Fabia VRS did 65'000 miles in just over 2yrs......no probelm @ all brilliant car!!!

Family grew out of it, now got the Octavia VRS....hope this is the same!!

Ermmmm how old does the car have to be to join this thread ? My youngest Skud is 10 years old and the oldest is 30  In between them is my 16 year old Skud Rapid which is a tad poorly (in bits actually) but saying that she has a 103K on the clock before the lay up and FIVE trips to Czech under her belt ! In general all the cars have been fantastic with only wear and tear items failing (brakes, clutches, the odd head gasket ect) Never will change the brand due to such good service from the make but i am a bit un-sure wether i would by a new Octavia or Fabia...might go mad and buy an A4 shape Occy estate one day, defo NOT an A5 !

twisted chassis?, kerbed alloys? stiff doors, stiff boot... was your car dropped off the trasporter lorry?!

After 27k miles my Octavia has failed to start once due to a faulty brake light switch flattening the battery, my own fault really as the dealer could get me in the same day but I was in Birmingham for a couple of days and left it.

But this little fault makes it more unreliable than a 1.7 DTi Astravan I drove for three years and sixty thousand miles with no faults whatsoever!

Can I amend my vote and say NO instead.

My Fabia didn't sit and stay as ordered.

It went walkabout and never came home:(

Actually I suspect it fell of the ramp in the garage when they PDI'd it, the dent in the sill was definately from a 2 post lift as found in Saltdean Garage.

Of course they denied it, but then they denied there was anything wrong with the car when I took it in because the seat was broken! (there was a sharp piece of metal sticking through the seat cover FFS:rolleyes:) and when they dented the back door, and when they....................you get the idea!

My Fab VRS has just done 17K in its first year. No significant faults at all.

Paid

I get the impression that a lot of your cars problems were caused or made worse by incompetent garage staff. I know exactly how you feel mind as I was seriously thinking of swapping my car out I was that unhappy with it. Change of dealer helped, but years of problems and driving courtesy cars doesn't inspire confidence does it :(

Unfortunately couldn't agree more :(

The loosing coolant problem I'm having has not gone away although it has improved, I have a feeling I will end up with it costing far far more than it should have done due to lack of diagnosing the original fault when I first took it into the dealership :(

That said it doesn't mean the car is necessarily better/worse than other brands, but the experience at the dealer does make a large difference..

Second skoda first was a 2.0 elegance loved it to bits had it for a few years with not one problem .VRS is doing fine love it even more dont think i could switch from SKODA !!!!!!!!

don't think anyone on here has reported a bad felicia, solid little car :)

We've had 3...my mum's my dad's and mine....

Mine's had no problem (touch wood)

My mums had something wrong with the radiator, just after it was out of its warranty, but she called Skoda UK and they replaced it all for free, apparently it was a common problem

My dad's had something wrong with the cylinder head gasket which apparently was also a problem, they also sorted that for free.

Mine has a different engine to those two though, my mum's was an X reg and I think my dad's is 51 plate....mines 05.

So the old engine had a couple of little flaws, but the customer service was always great for us and everything got sorted. They don't use that engine anymore anyway

This is prob why I never really need to post a thread about my car!! Nothing I need sorting out and don't want to do anything to it. just waiting to buy a faster one when I can insure it!

Generally yes. The accessory drive tensioner and alternator broke a few weeks after I bought it, but that apart it's been fine.

Hi Sharky

Relaible in that it has not cost me any lost income. The oily bits seem well put together, however it has had a few niggling problems the likes of which I never had with either the Fiesta or Corsa.

In one year it has had:

Handbrake shroud come loose

Heater fan resistor block failure

Clutch pedal rubber disintegrating (twice)

Failed CD autochanger (going on 8 weeks waiting for replacement so far)

Fuel filler flap lock failed / dropped off

The dash top plastic appears to be developing two slight bubbles

Also worth remembering the warranty is two years unlimited mileage / three years 60,000 miles.

I would happily have another one on the form so far.

If I keep as busy as I am at the moment that will be before the 2 years is up!

The car has to last me a nominal 32 months at the workload I had when I bought it. If it lasts longer then it is effectively a free car. If the milage is clocking up faster, I am earning more, so dont need to go as far as 32 months.

Reporting at next service:

STILL no CD changer

Creaky pedal box (on brake sometimes as well now)

Rattle from under the car when door is shut (check nothing is loose)

Occasionally creaky driver seat

Chris

Been more than happy with mine. 4.5 years and 50K and no major problems.

Issues I have had are:

- head unit was DOA, was just giving noise when playing CDs. This took an age to replace as it was during the great VAG warehouse move, and (not surprisingly) the CD changer was thought to be at fault first, so I had double the wait

- the infamous coil pack problem

- strange knocking noises from the rear shocks

- a really irritating rattle from the headlining

- faulty auxiliary air pump which decided to run intermittently when the ignition was off, and left me with a flat battery when I came out of work one BH Monday :(

All sorted with the minimum of fuss and the maximum of effort by my excellent local dealer.

Would I buy another one? Yes, absolutely, but sadly needed a big family car and nothing suitable in the Skoda range atm. Superb saloon too inflexible and Octy estate too small in the cabin. So we got a Passat, but may well have it serviced by our Skoda dealer.

The Octy is likely to go next year, and if we decide to carry on running two cars then new Fabia or Roomster definitely in the frame for a town car.

Great car, great dealer.

20,000 miles in my Fabia VRs. Very happy so far, just had a couple of brake issues. A "stripped" pad which needed replacing, and a mystery squeal when reversing occassionally.

Everything else fine and dandy, hope it keeps it up!
