Had too many Skoda

1st 1992 - K reg Favorit 136LS (1992) Never let me down but trim bits fell off, wipers, lights etc... Went to other makes - who let me down even more (had for 3 years mind).

2nd 2000 - R Reg Felicia GLXi 1.6 - bought as a throw away car - was a little marvel (12 months)

3rd 2001 - X Red Fabia Sdi Classic - Managed to do 28000 miles in 6 months. Slow but very solid - however an Italian mistake took me away

4th 2004 - 53 Reg Fabia 1.2 12v Comfort. Not bad but needed a bigger car (6 months)

5th 2004 - 53 Reg Octavia 1.6 Ambiente. Never got in with it. Never let me down but a few niggles (12 months)

6th 2005 - 55 Reg Fabia 1.2 12v Ambiente - Loved this but had mid life crisis and bought the VRS (was 38) 4 Months

7th 2005 - 05 Demo Fabia VRS. More niggles than the others. Loved the concept but (Like Neil) felt the target buyers had become a bit yob ish. (7 months)

8th 2006 - 55 Demo Octavia 2.0 Elegance PDi. Absoluteley the best I have had. Niggles like poor door seals do spoil it a little - I know people are putting the Octy II down as unreliable but the car is just soo good.

The future.

New Fabia (I hope)

bought my fabia 1.4mpi Y2K summer 2006. Was initially plagued with water leaks (water leaking into the cabin) and cold start issues. The dealer was very good and fixed the above quickly and proffessionally. Then had Coolant leaking problems which was traced to a faulty seal around a sensor mounted in the radiator (again under warranty), then the bottom hose started leaking (fixed under warranty). That little lot could have ended up costing me a fortune if I'd not had a decent warranty package. Since then I've had the musical electric windows that randomly open by themselves, usually when your away from the vehicle (happened twice). I've had and still got the Steering Angle sensor issue, but am reluctant to get that sorted as it'll cost a few quid and I'm not mechanically competent enough to do it myself. I've also had the front anti-roll bar bushes replaced (

Fabia vRS now 11 months old with 15k miles on it and completely fault free, not even a rattle or creak!

My Occy I Estate TDI Ambiente has 181K on the clock and has had a little work done now. Most issues are electrical and the wife has an A3 130 TDI SE and has only done 120K. Both cars have had IDENTICAL problems around the same time, oth had replacement air con components. Both had new cats within a week of each other, both had new MAF sensors, both had wheel bearings, both had new condensers, both had new bushes on the front.... need I continue?

But for 181K whose going to complain!?!

Had my octy 2 for 13 months now not had one problem so far. (TOUCH WOOD)emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Yes, had mine since new, now done 95k, only had a turbo as a real problem, would certainly buy another Skoda!!

Ben

yeah had no problems with it at all very pleased

+1

Got it at 14K - NOW IT'S GOT 58K - apart from the origonal tyres ,which went bang at the sight of a potole - lovely car . Times I've had to get in it and drive from Warks to North of Scotland - that's expalins the mileage - that mileage was done in three years -

I got in ,drove ,got out feeling as if I'd been driving something a lot bigger -

The only problem that I can remember with my Fabia was the microswitch on the hand brake came loose causing it to bong for ten minutes at a time. RAC fixed it in about half an hour. He said it was a similar problem on the VW vans. Also had a problem with the rubber strip on the A frame but never went back to the garage to get it replaced.

Wow, thread revival from 3 years ago! :D

I've had my Mk1 Octavia for nearly 6 years from new and it's been great. I've had issues but most have been my fault for messing with stuff :)

Covered 91,000km + 16,000 in a shipping container to NZ :)

Indicator steamed up - replaced under warranty

O-ring failed on aircon condenser at 5 years old - replaced and re-gassed.

Secondary air pump started to fail at 5.5 years - removed it.

I have a ticking noise from the aircon when it's warmer than 20 degrees. Never happens when near the aircon specialists

Drivers side headlight adjuster sticks sometimes. - about 30 quid to replace.

Mine would probably been more reliable If I hadn't tinkered with It, but i have been suprised by the huge amount of common problems that all vag seem to have, as most things that have failed which weren't to my doing have come back as common :(

Personally, having had a variety of VAGs and a mate who tuned them I would say they werent as reliable as the VAG propaganda claims. And some of the common problems are pretty bad.

Hence I would buy a Skoda as your not paying the image premium, but on the other hand Skoda values (which are high anyway) are what all VAGs should be.

Its not a dig at the subject in particular btw, it goes for a lot of makes (toyota... lol!)

And Just imho of course!!!

Forgot to say - I'm still on my first set of brake discs and pads and the original clutch despite a remap at 10,000 miles.
