Best way to debadge and not ruin paint work?

Featured Replies

I would like to swap the skoda badge on both the back and the front witha a VRS badge but dont want to dmage my paint work! is there a best way to get the badges off? and is there a best method to get the adhisive off the paint when the badge is removed??

PS loving the suprising power my fabia with an evo re-map is giving me! just a dab on the acceleratoe puts a beaming smile on my chops!

dental floss to pull it off, and some Autoglym Intensive Tar remover or random Betaware "Sticky-Stuff Remover" (smells like oranges) to get the glue off :)

then a polish :)

A gentle warm with a hairdryer may be a good idea , the badge and sticky tape fixing it on should come off in one go then

Fishing line/ dental floss to remove - dont use a card else the letters could snap in half !

Once off, use some sticky remover (bettaware/maplin/WD40) perhaps aided by a hairdryer to loosen sticky, and then use a desired product to protect the area and make it look as shiney as the rest of the paint (such as super resin polish - Autogylm).

Step back, admire...

Is the front vRS badge held on using sticky stuff aswell? (i.e. you can use the same method to get it off?)

What is it with the whole de-badging thing ?

Is it an embarrassment thing ? I expect it from the kids with their Novas and the likes or indeed the pretentious business men who want to hide the fact their Merc isn't the top of the line but a Fabia vRS.....why ?

I'm just doing mine before the scumbags around my area decide to do it for me with a nice big screwdriver and damage the paint.

Debadging makes the overall look of the car smoother, which I like.

Me too, but I still darn't do it incase it looks poo

the front grill VRS badge is glued on with something similar to super glue , so leaves a mark on the grill slats when removed

I agree. I have a badge on mine and it is going to stay there. Why wouldn't I want people to know that it is an Octavia SDI?

Your car will just have to remain all bumpy and unaerodynamic then!

smooth cars seem to be the way forward

Cheers for all the advice, the idea with de-badging is not to hide the fact i am driving a skoda, it is to make the car look nicer, the VRS badge stays on so anyone who knows anything about cars knows what i am driving, i love my car!

Cheers guys, you have been helpful as always:thumbup:

You should read this thread. Toward the end it explains how a disrupted airflow increases speed :D A good read none the less :D

Took the FABIA badge of mine yesterday, as mine is a 55 plate there was a seriors ghosting where the paint had faded in the sun. There was also a sticky deposit left behind. I found i you are careful to remove the sticky stuff with ure nail (very gently) and then give it a wash that removes that. To even the colour out T-Cut Black (black car) the one for removing scratches and blemish's, came up a treat.

Is the rear skoda badge the same principle gents??? Gotta agree the cleaner lines look much better.

Can someone post a pic of a debadged furby - I'm very intrigued - Quite like the sound of it:thumbup:

Rear skoda badge is held in by pins, so the holes in the boot lid will have to filled in & smoothed over.

Complete debadge:-

(were you trying a 3-point turn?) :D - Anyway.. how did you smooth it? it seemed like alot of work...... but looks great!

This is a good question, i am happy to debadge if its easy to take the skoda badge off (and no i am not trying to hide the fact that its a skoda) but if its a lot of work i am not sure if it is worth it.

Is there anyone else who has done this and if so was it easy / what did you do.

It's easy to remove all the rear badges, they're only stuck on with double sided foam tape/pads. I used a sharp chisel (using extreme caution!) to lift the badges and levered it over my finger to prise them off the paintwork. Once off, as Shep says use your fingernail to pick off the remaining black foam/glue. To tidy up the paintwork and remove the residue I finished it off with Autoglym Paint Renovator, but tbh, you can use any t-cut type stuff or even WD-40.

The central Skoda badge is removed in exactly the same way, and the backing tape holding this to the bodywork doesn't leave as much mess. Again just remove any residue with your preferred product. There's 2 holes left in the bodywork (used to locate the badge centrally) so if you have some cash to blow, get to a bodyshop and ask them to fill and spray the bootlid. If you're tight like me, fit the vRS badge centrally over the 2 holes. I opted for a mk2 Octavia vRS badge - it looks pretty cool. :)

Sounds like a good plan Nick, have u got a pic of the back of urs to show how it looks with the VRS badge in the middle. Ta.

The rear of the Fabia Vrs isnt plastered with badges granted, but some manufacturers get a bit sticker happy and really need toning down.

If you have the power keeps people guessing aswell, I have had 3 black cars in a row all with Tints and minimal badging much better imo, makes the rear look a lot smoother.
