Cupholder & drawer install instructions?

Featured Replies

Has anyone installed the Skoda vertical cup holder in a vRS Fabia? I got it and the drawer that fits below the radio but was just wondering how it all comes apart and goes back together. Thanks - Steve

I believe the cupholder blanks just snap out....

To fit the drawer, I think it's easiest to pull the radio out, then you can remove the existing cubby hole, slide the drawer in and then refit the radio....

I need to get round to fitting my vertical cupholder so I'll get pics and words done.

Cupholder: Vertical piece has 2 layers- top layer snaps off, and the frame underneath unscrews top & bottom. You need to remove the trim around the heater controls to get at the bottom screw, and probably the leftmost switch from the switch panel to get at the top one. Cupholder slides into place and is held by these two screws. Check it opens fully and easily before tightening everything up.

I've just had a go at mine in the carpark, took 60 seconds to get the side panel clear for the cupholder.

As bryand's said, remove the plastic trim on the left hand side first. Then remove the top-left switch blank (make sure you only do this once the left hand trim is out of the way).

Gently pull the heater trim away from the dash.

You're now able to get to the two Torx screws securing the cover. Remove this and slide the cupholder in, using the Torx screws to secure.

Push the top-left dash switch back in and drive off in the knowledge your tall mocha-frappacino isn't going to get spilt over your grey cloth seats :)

Fitted it earlier, pics below.

Thanks for the info and replies. The cupholder went in fine.

I couldn't quite figure out how to get the "slot" out to replace with the drawer. It doesn't seem to have any screws or clips - more a friction fit, but the slot/shelf would not come out with gentle prying.

Maybe the radio does have to come out. It seems to need a special tool to release the face? And will I have to reprogram it or just loosen the screws? Thanks again - Steve

You need to pull the radio out and then reach behind and give the storage tray a really good tug.

You can do it without disconnecting the radio but even if you do you won't need a code.

Thanks - will give it a go. I see form the archives I can use chopped up credit card strips or my Swift Army knife to release the radio.

Even if you have to buy the keys, they're only about £3 max from Halfords, hardly going to break the bank and saves you hassle of filing down hacksaw blades, etc.

Can these vertical cup holders be put either side of the radio?

No - there is only space on the left side.

No to the right side - the cupholder only fits on the left. There is, of course, the "rear" cupholder which fits where the rear ashtray goes. In a Fabia, it's about as close as the front cupholder :-)

Just received my front cup holder and before fitting it wants to stay open all the time and fails to click away. Is this normal before its fitted?

Just wondered if it's a duff one or will it only stow properly when installed:confused: ?

It should stay closed.

Mine takes a firm push to stay closed. Might not be able to press it hard enough when it's not attached to anything.

It should stay closed.

Just wouldn't stay closed so i had to have a look inside to see what was wrong.

Undid the 5 screws and....PING! B@!!*%&S!

The holder bit flew out with the big spring going in the opposite direction (me=, work mate= ) .

After 45 mins managed to work out how it goes back together and adjusted the small spring and catch so it will now stow away.

Only took 5mins to fit thanks to the instructions on here and Ian French for parts:thumbup: .

First mod:D

Yeah, I just bought one which had the same problem !

Thanks to your warning this didn't happen to me !

Yep, took me an hour to sort out the catch and spring to get it working properly. The catch was too lose on it's pivot and kept dropping downwards missing the pin on the cupholder so not allowing it to stay in contact with the cupholder and lock in place. A blob of glue from my glue gun on the bottom of the catch was enough to keep it in contact with the cupholder pin and a small adjustment to the spring completed the job ! :)

Likewise ! :D

An hour feckin about with the catch followed by 5 minutes to actually fit it !!!!

I recently put a Kenwood Head in my Elegance,.. that comes with the drawer as standard. I found that with the old stereo out I could just yank the draw out.. so no clips here either.

Just a lil note though... My drawer doesn't spring out to well with the new Head. tighter fit.. Might be able to mod it (as I did allready cut holes in everything to put an ipod link into the drawer.. full head control.. nice)

I've just fitted the cup holder (thanks for the detailed instructions). Before fitting the holder would pop out to its full extent freely with no problem. However, now fitted it pops out a couple of cms and snags and I have to virtually pull it out the rest of the way, likewise when trying to push it back in. I tried slackening off the two torx screws and wiggling it around a bit but this didn't make any difference. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a specific piece of trim it might be snagging on?

Cheers.

How much are the drinks holders to buy guys?
