odd brake/engine thing

Featured Replies

i'm not 100% sure, but when i was attempting to warm up new set of disks and pads, i noticed something weird.

it'd appear that if you touch the brake whilst moving, and simultaneously pressing the accelerator, that the accelerator stops revving the engine. take foot off brake, and it starts up again (slowly).

if this is happening it's probably by design, but anyone else's do this? it doesn't do it at stationary idle....is it an ECU safety feature?

I shall try this..safely on the way home from work at 9.30 and let you know when I get in...just after 10

Tried this a few times on the way home...at one point nearly putting myself through the windscreen but yes mine does it too...just dont know why!!!

Drive by wire accelerator system, says you are breaking, why waste fuel and so cuts fuel.

It is by design.

Agree with the above, they are all like that , the PD engined cars , but apparently you can turn it off but god knows how

yes, it can be turned off, by i cant see any reaseon why anybody would want to tho??

unless of course you are a rally fanatic and fancy a bit of the old left foot braking!

it's not just me then! odd, innit?

I found this while trying to left foot brake in my missus' Golf. My Superb does the same thing, i wonder if i turn off the traction control it will still do it? I reckon it will, coz i think its the anitlock braking system thats doing it.

Nope, turning off traction control will not over-ride it. Its not the abs system, just the brake pedal switch over-riding the accelerator signal :)

I haven't heard of anyone sucessfully disabling it though.

It can be done :D

I'd imagine it would be considered a fairly bad thing to do if you are talking about insurance side of things.

I'm to cr*p at driving to consider this kinda braking technique but I'm guessing it would be quite handy on the track?
