Felicia Stereo Power Feed

Featured Replies

OK this seems like the oddest problem ever... My stereo works when the engine is switched off, or when it is Idleing. When you start the engine, the display goes blank, I presume because all the power is being used to turn the engine over. Until two days ago it worked fine whilst driving, but no it will not work, it goes blank as when you start the engine, as if there's no power if you put any revs above Idle. So sat at traffic lights, the stereo comes on, but as soon as you put your foot down at all it dies again. I've checked the wireing harness behind the head unit, and nothings loose. Any Ideas?!

Does it only happen with acceleration or does it happen with general movement over bumps etc as well?

I cant really think of anything that might be related to engine revs taht could cause this but it is possible to have a break in a wire that disconnects under certain movements etc.

Have you driven in the dark to see if your headlamps are affected at all by acceleration - whether the beam gets dimmer and brighter etc?

Had this before, check your battery charging, it is probably overcharging and will require a new brush pack/voltage regulator assembly - assuming that your car is a 1.3.

My headlamps doo get slightly brighter when the revs pick up from idle, and the dials seem to glow brighter than usual too, and it is indeed a 1.3 - thanks for the advice guys

does a feli have a voltage regulator?

It's on the back of the alternator, silver box held in with two screws and a single wire connection, it also houses the brushes. can be replaced on the car in about 10 minutes.

Get it sorted ASAP as a gassing battery can damage the ECU.

:iaggree: with the above

my guess is that the extra current draw by the injectors/ingintion system above idle is causing a voltage drop and the radio probably has a under-voltage protection circuit hence it switching off at all speeds above idle

to be honest, rather than ****ing around fixing the alternator, just get one from a breakers yard

Yes it is, 2 screws and a spade connection.
