I was checking the oil level and as i pulled the speedo cable assy out the speedo gear fell back in and disapeared down the hole back into the box?

Question is What happens now??? Do i drive it and hope for the best (order a new 1) or is it box out and strip down to recover it

bits of metal flying round the box is only guna end in tears.

one of those pick up tools might be a good idea , you know the one , long flexible bendy wire thing with a handle on the end which when pushed down pushes out 4 grippy ends , you could use this to go fishing in the box , the use of a telescopic magnet might be useful if the gear is metal if not long thin pliers . i would certainly have a poke around in there before resorting to gearbox removal , it does work by the way as i have successfully retrieved a bolt out of the selector housing on a Ford gearbox HTH

think it was plastic gear but ive got 1 of the pick up tools and ive had a good go at getting it

they do have a magnetic debris collector inside the gearbox next to the diff, but if it gets jammed into the gears then it's curtain's for the gearbox i'm afraid!
