Fabia 1.9 TDI PD questions - prospective buyer

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Am soon to change Cavalier 1.7TD with 207k (187,000 my own work).

Was set on Nissan Almera 2.2 DCI 136 SXE - for performance, reliability, lowish 2nd hand prices for 10 to 20k models - however, am now considering Fabia 1.9 TDI PD Elegance for performance, extra economy and reliability (would really like VRS but unsure about convincing wife + I'm 54 and she'd think I'm a boy racer at heart), 10 to 20k up to 4 yrs old.

The Fabia diesels (from what I read) are more reliable than the petrols but I'm scared stiff of PD injector unit prices (EACH).

With this in mind what, please

1/ is the oil service interval ?

2/ The cheapest price for Millers XFE-PD oil that readers have recently found ?

3/ Is the Millers DieselPlus totally safe on the PD engines - I've used it for last 15 years on my diesels (even my wife can tell when its not in the tank) - I've read various reports on this issue ?

Obliged, in advance, for any info.

1) 10k

2) Not used it but Oilman on here does some good prices

3) Not approved IIRC - try doing a search on here though....

Oh and welcome :wavey:

Thanks for the reply, TaviaRS

?

2/ Oilman does good prices - does he list them somewhere on the site ? I did a quick search using 'Oilman' and just found LOTS to do with recommendations.

3/ IIRC - OK, another acronym I don't know.

Taa, again.

IIRC - If I Remember Correctly

1) 10,000 mile intervals = 10k

I don't think the injectors tend to pack up much... haven't heard many complaints about dead injectors on here, so wouldn't worry too much about the price :)

and welcome!

Why only a Fabia , when you can get any Octy 130 PD with variable service up to 20k miles 6 Gears and a big boot and yes a few tweeks and it looks like a VRS :D

Octy too big, want something smaller than Cav if possible. Also Octavia currently commanding too high a price for 10 to 20k models. Mostly ignoring them because of size - but thanks, especially in view of the 130 bhp 'thought'.

I think a PD100 either Elegance or Ambient would be right up your street. Excellent cars, and I'm sure very capable of the high mileages.

I run a TDCI Focus Ghia (2003 model), and am chuffed to bits with it.

I drove an Almera 56 reg yesterday, just down the shops. They just seem really cheap quality and not a scratch on my Fabia TDI Elegance. Take the Nissan for a test drive. Have a feel of the controls, the plastics, try and use the central computer console (good luck with that lol). It was a Petrol SE model so not exactly the same, but still. Then sit in a Fabia and you'll see the difference.

TBH though I would think there's not many examples of the TDI Elegance around in the second hand market (or there wasn't when I was looking), so you may be 'forced' to get a VRS anyway ;)

To Piggeh,

Thanks for the input. Not driven either Almera or Skoda actually, but Friday took the wife out and we looked at plenty of both models. Have to say I agree about the cheap feel of the plastics of the Almera, also the seats felt as if they'd go too soft and saggy within a couple of years.

Re: not many examples of Elegance - true, and the ones that are cheaper are in 'naff' colours.

VRS - would love one but for light seat outers and prices. Have seen 003, 24k for

To everyone,

Thanks for the info and the very pleasant greetings.

I can vouch for the PD100 Fabia being a good motor for the time I've had mine. I quite happily commuted nearly 100 miles a day in mine for 6 months, very reliable and frugal! :)

Welcome aboard! :)

I've a 2001 version with 91,000 miles on the clock. (Bought at 3 yrs old with 30k miles) Regular 10k mile Dealer services, 5k mile diy oil and filter changes, lots of tlc and Shell Diesel. No problems (touch wood) with engine. Just put a Dragonperformance 'chip' on it. Goes like a VRS! For £235! Also have 16'' Audi TT 7-spoke alloys for the summer, original 14'' alloys with winter tyres for now. Happy motoring.

The engine is at least ;)

To Peter Scott,

Thanks (seem to be saying this a lot - you guys are so friendly).

Reassuring to hear about the engine etc.

However, from not really wanting a Fabia, to now liking them and then on - my wife seems to want a VRS. Suits me - absolutely.

So, am thinking of holding out for silver, 20k, at the right price.

Thanks again.
