Octavia Autoheadlamp switching sensitivity

Featured Replies

My May 2006 Octavia2 has the automatic headlight switching. It seems to come on too soon and has illuminated the lights with full setting sun blazing into the windscreen.

The dimming mirror is not sensitive enough, often leaving me dazzled, particularly in twilight conditions.

Anyone know if the sensitivities can be adjusted please? Is there one sensor which could affect both functions.

The car is LHD. The mirror problem seemed worse in UK. An angle problem with the rear view mirror setting?

Post an Auto-Scan from your car, I'd like to take a look at your current rain/light sensor setup.

Have I done this already?

I don't have any kit to do a scan and i don't know how to do one.

Ok, so how should we help you then? Remember you were asking in the diagnostic forum! However, the general suggestion is checking the current settings of the light sensor and after that checking the sensor itself.

Thank you.

My dealer claims that there is no adjustment for sensitivity for either the headlamp switching or the dimming mirror. Is this untrue?

Do you know if the headlamp sensor is dependant on the wavelenght (colour) of the light Please?

I will obtain a scanner soon

The mirror dimming is indeed not adjustable and has nothing to do with the rain/light sensor, while the actual rain/light sensor behavior is adjustable. However, in most cases the problem is the sensor itself it measures brightness, which is not so much wave length dependent.

Thanks. If the problem is mainly with the rain/lightsensor, the only solution is to replace it? I suppose one would try adjusting the setting first though?

That must be costly?

I had discovered that the mirror sensor was separate; in my case the sensor seems to be recessed a bit too much, it does not protrude into the slot at all. Do you know if it is possible to prise off the mirror surround?

Once again, post your current rain/light sensor details - all we do at the moment is speculate and besides that this doesn't solve your problem, it steals those time that want to help you. :)
