Feature or fault?

Featured Replies

Try this for yourselves:-

If I just nudge the indicator stalk it springs back to the normal position as usual, but the chosen side gives 3 flashes before it stops. If you push a bit further and release it the indicators stop straight away. And if you push it round far enough it the latch engages and it stays there until self cancelled by the movement of the steering wheel, all perfectly normal. The controls in no way feel "sticky" or "broken" and everything works perfectly ( apart from the 06 stutter of course ).

Do your indicators do the same or have I got a fault brewing?

Fabia vRS 06, no mods whatsoever.

Regards,

Rob.

it's quite normal, no need to worry :)

Yes thats a feature of the indicators. Quite a few cars now have that. The first car I drove with that feature was the new astra and it confused the hell out of me as I wasnt expecting it. Also the Audi A3 I am driving at the moment has it. Shame its no good compared to the fabia VRS though

My 55 reg Octavia is the same, I dont know how I would manage without it now.

The Astras indicators are a bit different as they have no latch at all. I had an Astra for a weekend and despised the indicators cause there was no way of knowing by touch whether your indicator was on or not, (as I would have loud music on so I'd never be able to hear the indicator) I actually think they were pretty dangerous cause you needed to look down to see if they were on or not. The system in the Fabia is much better as you have the option of either and I often use the 3 flashes coming off roundabouts.

1 series indicators have no latch - how far you push determines 3-flashes or permanent. Pushing the same way lightly is the best way to cancel them - takes getting used to.

You woukld turn the indicator on which direction you are going and then turn it off

The Skoda/VW/Audi method is great, but the Astra is overcomplicated and a pain in the @rse imo

Are they the same in the 'new' (ie 2002 onwards) Vectra? :thumbdwn:

Vectra and Astra use the same type; yes they're a bit trick to use but can be got used to.

This must be a new feature on the Fabia ('05 facelift onward?) as the indicators don't seem to work like this on my '02 Furby.

Same here my pre-historic almost 7 year old Fabia does not have this feature either.

Got used to this feature on my 06 vRS...its very usefull...and miss it when I drive my girlfriends 25K Lexus 220d...LOL

Changing the subject and thinking of a current thread; vRS v BMW 120d. Given a free choice which would you buy; vRS or Lexus 220d?

Well, if someone said to me "here is a car for free, which one do you want?! " I would choose the Lexus. But, if I was in the market to spend

Having driven them both (vRS & 220d) over the past few months, they are not a fair comparison.....I love the vRS for its performance and pure fun as a 'point & squirt' car and have done 20 000 miles in just over 6 months, mainly on motorways and it is very happy cruising at 'normal' motorway speeds.

The Lexus is a real autobahn cruiser imho...6th gear is approx 40mph/1000rpm...so if your not doing over 80mph the engine labours!! Acceleration wise the Lexus power is delivered very smoothly - there is no huge lump of torque delivered at 2000rpm (the bit that for me gives the furby its charachter).

The inside and equipment is far more luxurious than the furby...but then again its twice the price, but with the high door lines and black leather it can feel quite claustophobic. Keyless entry and push button start/stop take some getting used to and you need a phd to work out the aircon!! The std cd player system is very good - much better than the furby.

As regards fuel consumption we get around 38mpg (acc to the readout - not done a tank check yet) on mixed motroing which is not bad given the size of the car.

So for me there is'nt a real choice they are just very different cars

my '04 fabia has the *"lane change" indicators too
