Ahh my car wont lock and windows keep going down

Featured Replies

Ok, came out to my car after work today and the doors were unlocked and the windows were down :S

Luckily the car was untouched and in a sheltered area.

However when i drive the car it keeps on trying to unlock itself even if its allready unlocked, the remote plip dosnt work either.

So i cant lock the car, when i take the key out the ignition after a few seconds it tries to unlock again, and then puts the windows down icon_twisted.gif

So i have had to manually lock the car and disconnect the battery, grr

If anyone has heard of this problem and knows how to fix it, pleassseee let me know!

maybe a stuck driver's door outside lock or water in it?

Using the key in it to unlock and held will give identical symptoms to what you descibe.

try a bit of WD40 and using the key in it a few times lock/unlock.

Otherwise it's probably off to the stealers....

Nope not the door lock, that fine. Off to dealers it iss, ffs

oh dear, both our Fabia vRS and Octy vRS suffered from this. they required new central locking control units :( both happened when of course it had to be freezing and pouring with rain :(

Oh well, good luck then Mate

Nice, sounds expensive, that another thing to add to the list of this damn 3 year old car

Duffed central locking and windows,

Screwed rear washer

Dodgy boot release

Crap heater flaps

And position 1 on the fans dosnt work

Im soo peeved, off i bought this car to replace a 1999 seat toledo i have this car has been nothing but hell.

To me it sounds like the central conv module is screwed, surely i can disconnect the wire from the door lock, i dont really care about loosing it

Many of your listed problems are known issues and fairly easy to rectify -

Duffed central locking and windows - Probably the unit as advised

Screwed rear washer - Common issues with pipes blowing off and jets blocking due to using non VAG screenwash

Dodgy boot release -

Crap heater flaps - Probably the motors.

And position 1 on the fans dosnt work - Resistor pack failed.

can u remove a fuse to stop the windows coming down?

Well, just went out and reconnected the battery, and its fine :S

Oh and i know the above problems should be fixed, but you dont expect them on a 3 year old car!

Perhaps you should try buying a Ford then you'll know.

i know what you mean, we got rid of our fabia after a year and a bit due to countless and continuing problems :(

kept thinking yay, we fixed them all then something else happened :(

very disappointed in the car and dealer tbh :(

Hi!

I had the same problem in my Octy 2000, and I had to replace the luggage locker, costed me about £300 (in Norway) to get it fixed by a VAG Dealer.

All locks are electric and are controlled by the Comfort System. If you open the door with the key and hold it in open position for a couple of seconds all windows will open, and opposite if you lock the door with the key. Since the locks can shortcut due to wet dirt, they will tell the Comfort System that you are keeping the key in an open position for å couple of seconds.

You could temporarily avoid the problem by removing the fuse for the comfort system, but then you have to manually open all doors. Windows will still work.

Well seems to have fixed itself, it worries me that looking at the autotrader reliability tables skoda came out top :S

Although some people have problems, many more dont. I am on my second octavia. The first had no problems in 4 years of ownership, and touch wood the second one is going ok to.

On the other hand, the Boxster in my avatar during 12 months ownership needed , new roof, and more besides. I regret selling the first one, but I am really happy with the current one.

My Mum's Fabia had a similar problem. Like others here, the central locking control unit was replaced, but this did not cure the problem. In the end a local mechanic fixed it. Was quite a simple thing in the end... something like a micro switch was jammed???

Yes i heard it could be the micro switch in the lock barrel, will look into it if it acts up again

sadly it worried me too as skoda were so high up reliablility lists. but from what i hear im not sure if people answer these surveys accurately as many when they owned a skoda were always trying to stick up for it and saying how reliable the car was even if it may not have been

Also something like a turbo failure has been seen as minor, where as I would see that as a very major fault.

If my turbo failed the car would get 1 or 2 out of 10 is it was a new car.

Perhaps you should try buying a Ford then you'll know.

Tried that, but at 4 1/2 years old it's still not showing any problems :P:rofl:
