Check out my new motor!

Featured Replies

Well - I went out today to look at possibly the cheapest car ever (for one that actually runs legally on the road) - I thought the advert said it was an escort (latin name: Es-scrote), but it turned out to be this: A fiesta... :o

Not a lot I can say about it really - Its a 1986 Fiesta - dodgy viper stripes, it does have a sunroof, 1.1 - Quite a bit of rust but thats just really superficial, and not surprising on a 18 year old car. The ad also said it was a Ghia, but it ain't - It does have a rev counter and ghia type seats. It seems to be a good runner - 75K on the clock, doesn't smoke when warmed up, and all those fittings seem tight (clutch, gears, brakes, etc) - Also tax to end of July, and three weeks M.O.T. So, I figured this was a bit of a bargain for the paltry sum of:

You plank !!

Escort 1.1 Ghia indeed

Jason, why dont you put your Fabia TDI engine in it, talk about stealthly

modding potential = zero! :D

oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...

The only mod I'm gonna do is remove the damn green L plates on the front and back... The rest will be purely trying to keep the thing on the road and sell it on to some gullible punter. :D

Jason, given your recent history, it might be wiser to leave them on :D

QED[/b'] ;)

Denis! I resemble that remark! :D

Anyway - how the hell could I NOT buy it. I've been looking thru the service history while surfing the net, and the owner before the one I got it from has spent bloody hundreds on getting it thru the last two MOT tests... WHY? I can't complain because it means it should be easier / cheaper for me to put it through a test without many repairs.

For

Jason,

Get your mate to give it the once-over, just to see what / if anything needs doing for an MOT.

Could be a useful little first car for someone if its any good, and you might make a few quid out of it at the same time ;)

Will probably cost you more to scrap it than you paid for it... :D

(which is why someone sold it for

Nope, because I know a scrappie that pays

One thought - how much is it going to cost to insure? :D

Rob.

Insurance... I wish you hadn't brought that up.

Basically, due possibly to recent circumstances, it's gonna cost me way over

So, plans are, NOT to insure myself (and obviously not drive it on my own)

I feel a 'Jason' coming on again. Steady mate.

:D

When I say not on my own, there's a reason for that - but I don't want to go into details. I just know someone with a rather special non-standard insurance policy.

did you lose your liscence then? :)

At least you mate will think you have now brough a car that is better than a Skoda!

No - Full license, less 3 points still valid... Nothing criminal arose from the crash - Not that I was doing anything criminal anyway, unless spreading debris from a bank and my car all over an A road is a criminal offence. :D

It's just even with third party, this

What about limited mileage policies 5000miles PA should bring the cost down a bit classic insurance?
