Front fog switch to replace blank plate

Featured Replies

Hi all, got some front fog lights to fit on my Classic ( 45 quid inc postage brand new) so where can i source a switch to replace the blanks below the central heater vents,

Has anyone fitted these on a classic nad did they use a relay or wire into existing loom.

Thanks, Kevin

PS, this is a list of stuff to do with my classic.

Front mudfllaps to fit ( have them)

Central locking kit ( have it)

Front fog lights ( have them)

Fit rear speakers ( have them)

Fix boot touch pad or fit switch?

Thanks

Your dealer will be able to get the part for you, remember you'll need a plug for the back and some of the correctly terminated wires.

Alternatively try a scrapyard.

I don't know which switch would be the best for you as it isn't the usual location for a foglight switch. What about buying the headlight switch with the front foglight position?

skospares.com show several fabia's with fog lights, so may well have a switch

Yep but they are part of the headlight switch, not a seperate switch.

I would suggest an asr or something switch then carfully rubbing it down with something to remove the printed lettering.

Yes - sorry, I was assuming the desire was to replace the headlight switch

How does the headlight switch work with front fog light capability, mine you pull the switch to use the rear fog lights.

does the wiring loom cater for adding extras like the front fog lights or do i have to use seperate wiring with a relay fitted, if so then where would be the best place to wire the LIVE to the relay from, direct from battery but which termiinal on the top of the cover on the battery...

Any help gratefull.

PS, i posted an email to SKOSPARES but waiting reply for switch.

Kevin

Fitting of fogs is not something I have really looked into.

On the switch you have an additional pull out position for front fogs.

As I am sure you will appreciate nothing in this world is free, so if you were a freedom member and supported the maintenance of this website then I might be inclined to make some enquiries on your behalf.

The ASR/ESP switch is a simple push-to-make low current pushbutton switch. You would need a relay and some circuitry to make a latching high-current switch to handle 110W. Heated rear window switch is the same but has a pilot light. There are no latching switches for the Fabia switch panel, AFAIK.

I hope you are not going to use the fog lights in normal driving conditions, it annoys the hell out of me when people do that.

I'm not sure why peope do it? to make there car look good/better?.

I came to the conclusion that these people want their rear foglights on to ward off tailgaters and like us have to turn the front foglights on in the process.

Suppose so, this land rover had his fog lights on the other night, and was right up my chuff, so i flicked on an d off my rear foggy on (obviosuly the fronts came on too. Hypocrit people say) so that he would turn them off. he decided to then start flashing me and followed me home. idiot

I dread to think the work involved in getting fogs working like this...

If it were a separate circuit, I guess you could easily enough wire up a single switch to turn them on? Would mean two wires going down to the live connector on the foglamp, and then they'd need earthing on the chassis? Perhaps on the chassis legs?

An ideal neat solution might be two get two of the plugs for the foglights, then have wires coming off each, right back into the cabin, then earth them both to maybe the headunit earth wire, or to the bulkhead itself?

I can see for someone with reasonable electrical DIY skills, it wouldn't be too bad.

Chris: Sorry to hear of your experience, but in that situation, unless I was in traffic too, I would simply drive fast to get away from the tuuat. I'd sooner break the speed limit a bit and get safe, than be dazzled in the mirror and maybe hit something in front because of this.

I can do alot of stuff, i fitted a whole new wiring system for the lights on my Suzuki bandit with 2 relays when i did the street fighter upgrade ( twin lights) and also fitted seperate system to an astra years ago, i do most of my servicing and i had a metro once, replaced the whole subframe in my garden one day, also resprayed volvo beige to boot, hahahaha

Just wanted to make sure if i fitted seperate wiring with realy and switch on dash that where i fed the live feed from was ok, from battery i suppose but the battery cover has a few red wires on it, lift that cover then you see the battery, didnt want to connect to battery terminal direct, just spur off a supply ??? can earth direct to chassis close the lights no problem.

Just to say that i do not drive with fog lights on with side lights on as well, whats the point, i wanted fog lights fitted on front because i travel from Bradford ( west yorkshire ) to Bolton ( manchester way) on the M62 and can get foggy some times......so if i fitted these fog lights i would like then to work????

Thanks for your input.

Kevin

When I looked under the battery cover on mine, I found that one of the locations for a mega-fuse wasn't being used. I bought an inline fuseholder and wired it to the fuse post in the spare position to provide a fused supply for ancilliaries.

It's a knuckle-skinning job feeding wires into the cabin though.

I bet it is, my knuckles are used to though, hahaha with having long arms and short body ??

I have to feed a live for central locking kit so can do both wires at once, not looked at bulk head yet to see if there is a rubber grommet i can punch through.

Thing is i wanna try and do most of the wiring feed all in 1 go, for the fog lights and C/L kit, also need to dismantle rear panneling for the speaker wires.....sheesh, i got alot to do thinking about it, not a good time in winter and rain, got a garage but full of the preverbial rubbish...

Thanks.

Kevin

Will check my fuse posts and if 1 spare will fit a propper bolt on holder.......some how.

I've had a look at the Current Flow Diagram and it looks surprisingly simple and no relay required as far as I can see.

Bit of help would not go a miss.

Thanks

I have access to some information.

And the money funds his fuel bills :P

Seriously, join Freedom. It allows you to use alot more features of the site and makes sure that this valuble resource is available when your next problem arises. Think about it, would you phone you local dealer to ask this question or have their mechanic look at it?

:D

It doesn't fund anything for me i'm afraid. I do have some idea of costs though as I fund my own websites.

The gain I get from this place is a community of like minded people sharing information and experiance. What doesn't build a community is the transient members who google to find an answer to a problem, end up here and have it solved and then dissapear never to be seen again.

Indeed, it is truely a community. I googled, ended up here and am bloody stuck! Its a really friendly place and no matter what question it will get answered in someway shape or form!

Such as "does anyone know how many buffalos it takes to destroy a road" - to "Ive just seen a car in a ditch, shall I use the front strut brace to tow it out?"

Hiya how did you get on with adding fog lights looking to do the same with my classic do the blanking plates come out the bumper easy enough?

Cheers

You might find a detailed guide to retro fitting front fog lights on one of the Polo sites - I think that it was covered for the 9N Polo - ie roughly same as Fabia as far as wiring would be concerned. At least this would give you some insight into what is needed.
