water ingress vrs estate

  could anybody tell me where the little pool of water i keep getting in the left hand side compartment in the boot is coming from it is not swimming but there is enough when you have a cd changer in there any advise would be great

How is the rear washer pipe routed?

Look at the tailgate hinges. Do any of the bodywork seals round them look perished/worn etc? If so, get some clear silicon sealant and seal it all back up! I had water in the side compartments on both sides. Not any more!:D

Clear water... or wind screen wash? There is a junction in the wiring loom near to the changer where the rear washer pipe is routed, and that can fall apart, resulting in windscreen wash water ended up in there. There is infact a rubber drainage hole as well......

windscreen wash or rear light cluster.

anyone ever had trouble with leaking rear quarter window or do you think it is more likely light cluster

I found a pool of water in the same place (just below the CD changer) of my Tdi estate. I found that the rear wash wipe supply is routed via a black pipe (plastic) through this part of the car, and that there is a joint which can come apart. See if you can still wash the rear screen..if you can't look for the 2 ends of the black pipe and join them back together. You might have to take the CD changer out to get underneath, but you might want to do that anyway to dry it out.

Yep... I found that when I fitted my towbar and did the wiring in there....!

when you fitted your towbar wiring did you find out where yours was coming from

When I actually fitted my towbaw, I had to flex the loom in order to splice the wires in, and doing do was when I managed to break the joint in the washer hose.

I had exact same problem. I moved the black plastic pipe a few times which must have allowed the seal to make once more. No problems since and boot dry!

mine is neither the washer pipe or the rear light seal dealership said sometimes wheel arch splits can anybody give any information on this e.g. where to look:)

Erm never heard of wheel arch just splitting.

a metal wheel arch splitting... nice ;-)

I had a look at the wheel arch in the boot today as i was putting stuff in.

If the wheel arch has split I would think the car has been in an accident. Personally I wouldn't be having any of it at all, and think that the garage can't find the problem.

The water pipe for the rear washer jets, what exactly does it look like?

I ask because, like others, I discovered the rear lefthand side compartment of my Octavia Estate was rather soggy, from there into the centre of the boot, with a little pool of water in the spare wheel well (I also now have a baseball cap with nice blue/green/white fuzzy patches on it). I removed the CD changer, eventually (would have helped if I could have found the right-angled socket driver I swear I have somewhere), and dried out the whole area. The main suspect for the source of the water appeared to be a blue pipe that comes down from the rear stanchion (from the direction of where the loom goes from the body to the top of the tailgate), over the top of the CD changer, and then into a hole on the floor of the compartment to the righthand of where the CD changer was i.e. towards the front of the car. Well I assume it is supposed to go into the rubber that hole, but in my case it was hanging loose!

I have my doubts that that's the washer feed though as it seems rather a large diameter (10mm?) pipe for that job. Could it be a drain pipe of some sort, but if so for what? The rear washer also appeared to work fine both before and after I did my 'repair', and with me in the boot and the wife operating the washers I couldn't see any ingress of washer fluid. Also, the water that was present didn't seem to look or smell like washer fluid.

Oh and all this started with a 'posessed' central locking system. It started locking the doors by itself, normally within 1 sec of you trying to open them so you had to be quick to get in. That lasted for 3-4 days, then it was fine for 3 days, then it started again. Got so bad that even sitting parked in the drive it was constantly clunking away. Not opening the doors but cycling the deadlocks on & off I think. Eventually I pulled fuse 14 and that stopped it and I'm using the old key in the door method to open the car for now. If all stays dry in the CD Changer compartment I'll put the fuse back in and cross my fingers. May need to have a closer look at the connectors in that area at the weekend though cos there's some tell-tale signs of blue deposits on them, they may need cleaned up.

Oh and great set of forums by the way!!! If I hadn't found them I'd probably already be out a wad of cash to the dealers. With the suggestions and experiences of people from numerous threads I've looked through since I started having problems hopefully I've found and sorted the problem myself, for no cost. Fingers crossed!!!

Oh, and I also finally know how to open those damn key-fob remotes to change the battery too. :)
