Pikey mods

Featured Replies

Well i've finally got round to doing the 'pikey' mod no.1

I eventually decided to go for the B&Q air vent method but slightly different to others that i have seen by going for the narrower vent.... about 9"x3" i think.

Sprayed it matt black to match the arch liner and then held in place by 12 self tappers also painted black.

Cheers

Dave.

It's a way of life to some people. Although I don't think the boffins at Porsche, or NASA got where they are today by doing Pikey Mods.

Apart from on Apollo 13!

Question? What difference does it make if the vents aim downwards or rightwards? Apart from potential to stop crud from hitting your i/c that is?

I know most cars have a high pressure area at the rear of the wheel wells. Hence various vents and slots on the wings of Le Mans cars to reduce drag and more importantly, lift.

I did the same, using the B&Q vent but the bigger one. I also painted it black and covered it in Waxoyl to provide some chip resistance.

The effects have been noticable. Next to no fade now after giving a it a beating and coming off the motorway. You can boot it again and the power is still there.

In terms of the angle of the vents, personally, providing they're not pointing up, I'd say down or outwards from the arch are the best bets. The air passing over the arch from either underneath or past the wheel would perhaps drag air through the IC and out.

Under neath is probably the best bet in terms of practicality as you can't spray in there with the hosepipe and soak the IC.
