Newbie joins, buys vRS, collects Friday - now that's a mini adventure!

Featured Replies

Hi guys - just found the site after signing on the line for a Black vRS today. Had a fair bit of phoning round to find a black one that I could drive away before May, but got lucky in Huddersfield! Collect Friday (yes, this week).

Previously got close to buying a MINI Cooper - think I've made the right choice with the Fabia vRS - more of a stealth machine!

Looking forward to getting the first few (careful) miles out of the way before the proper fun starts!

See ya

Hi Dave,

Think you made the right choice. Bet there isn't a Mini forum that's as much fun as this one !

Jane

Welcome Dave

and regarding buying a mini, take a look at wayne's posts. There's a link on his sig I believe. Worth a read ;)

not that I despise minis of course!

Welcome Dave, enjoy your new toy.

Please always say Fabia vRS just to make sure people do not think you are buying a real vRS

Excellent, my dealer is currently sourcing me one with Xenons etc.

Did you get any options on yours?

D

Welcome to the site. I too almost bought a mini but then I had a second test drive of a vRS. This time I took it for a proper run :D . Needless to say I bought one.

I ordered mine back in november I think, so your lucky your getting one so soon.

4 weeks to go :D

But the Fabia IS the real vRS as the reason for the Octavia vRS' existance is no more as thay are now rallying the more nimble Fabia. :D

What's the relationship between the road-going cars and the rally cars?!

Rob.

rsfab,

Welcome to the site rsfab, enjoy your new car

John

Please lets not turn this thread into a 'whats better, Octy or Fabia vRS' thread, plenty of that allready.

rsfab...congrats on getting one so soon, Im sure you will like it they are awesome fun :)

Gordon Lambs in Chesterfield have a black one unregistered on the forecourt for sale, looked at it today when my WRC had its 4th indicator/hazard relay fitted :thumbdwn:

Both vRs' came obout due to the homologlation rules in the wrc. As there has to be a production version of the car which must have some of the same parts (one of the things on the fabia is a spoiler or bumper, don't know exactly)

Also hence the faster scoobys, the RS focus, Pug 206 gti and citroen Xsara vtr (although no one buys the citroen for reasons unknown)

Just found the site myself, bought Silver Fabia vRS last October. Amazing car and seems to get quicker the more miles i clock up - 6000 to date. prieviously drove Golf Tdi and Puma 1.7

Nick C - nice to see another ex Puma driver here! Although looking forward to getting the vRS, feel slightly guilty about the loss of the Puma - a great driver's car, esp with induction kit and Miltek exhaust - sounds as good as it goes!

Two days to go before I collect the vRS - been looking at lots of reviews on the net, can't find a bad one.

Anticipation...

Yikes!

Big brother is indeed out and watching me! Seriously though, after two test-drives in the Fabia vRS, the first 2-3 months ago and the second last weekend for about 5 hours, it became painfully clear to me that I made the wrong decision when I bought my first MINI Cooper S.

Although the Fabia vRS didn't exist then, I got sucked in by the glossy marketing, hype and glossy images of the new MINI. Yes I had plenty of test drives in them, but I hadn't made allowances for crappy build quality and very poor/snotty/elitist after-sales service from BMW. Foolishly I bought a BMW/MINI thinking that my

I think it's yet another case of the motoring press having nothing but praise for a car that just fails to deliver in real life with real owners. There are so many tales of woe with the MINI and BMW have a legendary reputation for not giving a damn, fobbing owners off with the classic line "we've not seen that problem before" when it's commonly known about.

Hope there's people out there who have lots of good stories about how the Fabia won't break down, and if it does that the dealers might care?

I do miss Puma however the Fabia is almost as good handling wise although if the surface is a bit rough the Puma felt more secure. Less body roll in the Fabia. Turn in slightly sharper in the Puma. Mid range grunt much better than the Ford petrol 1.7vvt

Matey, I am in 100% agreement with you on that. I had owned 2 brand-new BMW 318SE before that and had always been treated with respect. With the MINI though I felt like a 2nd-class citizen and that the product that I had bought was no higher in value than a Big Mac and fries.

Anyway, on the other subject that you raised regarding the Fabia vRS reliabilty, here's another thread that I started: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6419

It makes very interesting reading and frankly, it's one in the eye for MINI and BMW. How can BMW get away with this way of business? Oh I know. It's because people like me put up with it and can't afford to take them to court. So unfair, even Trading Standards were upset by their attitude.

Well, collected on Friday and covered 600 careful miles (taking time to run in properly)since without problem. I'm well-chuffed with the experience so far - I've had a few different cars recently (Toyota and Ford) but feels the best quality with some nice touches. Power (even being careful) is effortless, brakes superb, interior rattle-free and everything as you'd hope. In two minds - buy one!

Well, covered 700 miles in some sh*te conditions - covered in rock salt, mud and dust, but seems to scrub up will enough. Credit due to the AutoGlym stuff the dealer applied maybe?

Will add the pics to my gallery as I'm not sure how to insert images into this forum (does it need to be hosted on the www somewhere)??? The insert image button starts talking script kiddie speak...

Cheers
