Heated Door Mirrors

Featured Replies

Is there a control for to switch on the door mirrors. Mine just stopped functioning:confused:

There isnt, just works when the rear window is on IIRC.

It works all the time whilst the control k nob on the door is in the mid position.

If yours isnt then the element may have failed. Dealers changr about £40 for a replacment or you can do what I did and wait until one becomes available on EBay.... cost me £4

To remove the morror glass, tilt the mirror using the control on the inside of the car so than it is facing as far down and as far in towards the car is possible.

You then need to use something like the short end of an allan key or a hook shaped tool to pull the glass from the top right corner. It will come away easily.

Once it is off you will see the two wires that power the heating element - make sure these are both connected as ine could have come off.

On mine the selection/directional adjustment switch includes a top position for heating them, which is separate from the rear heated screen switch.

In order from top:

  • Heating (say 1 o'clock position)
  • L + R adjustment (3 o'clock)
  • L only adjustment (5 o'clock)

When I bought mine (October '02 Ambiente TDI), the dealer told me it was on whenever the heated rear window was on. I guess some must be like that for him to have said it, but on mine he was wrong. It's on when the k nob's in the middle position as Goochie said, which is also what my handbook said.

I think there's a picture somewhere in the handbook that shows the heating position at the top, rather than in the middle, though, so I guess Skoda just couldn't really decide how best to do it...

FYI you can adjust the time the heating element remains on for with VAG-COM. Pretty pointless unless you take a car from Malta to Finland etc. I suppose.
