Retrofitting Windscreen Washer Level Switch

Featured Replies

I've been looking at the options available to change with vag-com on the instruments and see that there is a warning light for low washer fluid level.

Having researched on here I understand that the vrs mk1 didn't come with this fitted :( .

I've looked on ETOS and found that there are two different size tanks (3L & 5L - mine has 3L) and then two variants of each, one with the option for level indication. (Part No. 1J0 955 453 P).

The switch is listed as 7M0 919 376 with a 7M0 919 382 seal so it looks like I could purchase the parts in future but as the switch appears to be on the wing side of the bottle I can't tell if the loom would have provision for the connection ? .

Does anyone know if this is in place for future modification, or even if it's something the dealer could fit if required without costing the earth?

My car is currently under warranty at present so I'm not looking to start tearing it apart but there are a few little mods I'd like to do after it has expired, such as this and the extra rear fog light connection.

Anyone shine any light on this then - I've searched but cannot find an answer.

Are you sure you don't have it? My 2003 vRS does.

I doubt the wiring would be in place if it wasn't fitted at the factory.

Well if it is fitted it's faulty as I filled the fluid up today and enabled it with vag-com where it immediately brought up the warning light and an audible alarm.

I was going under the impression that they didn't fit it to the vrs as standard so as it's not enabled it wouldn't have been fitted  ?

I'll have to try looking a bit closer now I know where it fits - would be interested to hear where your sensor lead goes vrsphil if you can see it.

According to the ETOS picture it's on the opposite side to the pump.

I'll have a look later when I wash the car and will let you know if I can see where the lead goes.

A car with Xenons and headlamp washers will have this and one without wont I would have thought.

Seems a bit pointless to not fit it though :( .

I had a look around earlier comparing things with the printout from etos and it actually appears to fit on the front of the car side of the bottle.

Can't see any spare plugs on the loom around there so it's looking like a not possible job.

If someone who has it could take a picture and post it up here it might help me to eliminate the idea for good!

I had a look and took a photo but for some reason the photo seems to have vanished from my phone :s

Anyway the wiring for the sensor on mine comes from the same place as the wiring for the pump...

I'll try and get another pic tomorrow but I think the wiring would be fairly obvious if it was there :(

Thanks for looking anyway Phil, If it comes out of the loom at the same point as the pump then I'm pretty sure it's not possible :thumbdwn: .

Never mind!
