Revo'd Fabia VRS - Clutch slip

Featured Replies

Think youll find its not commonplace.. its totally down to how the car is driven and will be an issue with ALL remaps....

My old revo fabia is still on its OE clutch after 110k+ and its one of the more powerful ones too ;)

It was is what you ment to say.

It has since went Boom....

I blame Johnny's poor driving style :P

 :(

Skudmissiles blew up at around 220 so

My car did nothing of the sort

The standard clutch ate itself when the car was running only 170bhp and 270lbft.......

The sach clutch was not slipping at all with the hybrid on...... in fact its still in the car now.... where-ever she may be?

Thats with 382lbft and 230bhp :P Sach organic was fine...... nowt wrong with sach clutchs.... shifty runs one and he has 400lbft

arent the standard clutches fitted to the vrs sachs?

I know some of the audi and VW standard clutches are made by sachs

As above, all maps are capable of eating a standard clutch - even an unmapped vRS can lunch a clutch and flywheel if you give it too much stick at low revs. Trouble is people tend to get addicted to that sudden surge of power at 1850 rpm and they boot it at revs below that in order to feel it the most.

A decent map (especially a custom one) does not provide its power at those points anyway meaning you need to rev it more to build up the power. All the overboost at those revs was removed from mine when it was mapped - I asked for mine to be friendly to the engine components and I ended up with 300ft/lb which they said was about the most the standard clutch could handle. As John says though his lunched itself at 270ft/lb so it shows the plain power figures are not the whole story.

At the end of the day, you've increased the engines output by a good 35% upwards. You have to expect an extra degree of strain on drivetrain bits and bobs - you simply take that into account when applying the throttle. A good remap will mean that the nature of the power delivery is not spiky at low revs and it will be less encouraging to boot it at this point to feel the 'surge' and thus potentially less damaging.

Oi !

It still drives....albeit not very quickly. :(

Still, at 114k, and it's been driven properly, i think it's lasted very well.

I dont even see the point in me getting an upgraded clutch, if an oem can last 114k with a lot of abuse. :D

Some of your quotes etc have no continuity...

I read in your thread that your Sachs was slipping.

I also read some of your other posts and they contradict themselves all over the place ?

# just found it... have a look here

And just so you dont edit it ....

Nearly :( Its slipping a fair bit now.

Guess the sach one isnt really designed for just short of 400lbft :o

The clutch wasnt slipping, it was the flywheel as we later found out!

At the time i believed it to be the clutch, hence my post.. But upon closer dismantling and inspect the flywheel was fooked. very blue'd and cracked.

So before you start going back through all my posts, mind your own buisness and GET A LIFE

I come with a message from Snoopie.

Goodness me!

Just popped along to say, I'm another one who is very happy with their Sachs clutch. With the organic pressure plate, it's rated to around 350-360 lb/ft, which is ample - for me anyway.

As has been mentioned, the standard DMF is often the weak point. I understand the OEM model to be capable of reliably handling 320 lb/ft.

We could talk about BHP and torque figures until the cows come home. But that's not really what's important. It's how the car drives, how the power is delivered over the rev range and the level of mechanical sympathy the driver has.

Now, can we perhaps pick the toys up, that have fallen out of the pram?

Steve

I thought it was amusing for a short while.

I hate people who do that. These forums are here for people to look for good advice about Skoda's and talk to others about different mods that are possible and it's a place to bounce ideas of one another.

God it's hard not to swear at people like him. Someone not mechanically minded could take his advice and ruin their car. Hope he's been banned now. People like that ruin the forum for everyone.

Sorry rant over.

What in hells name is going on?? ....

LOL

And you can get a Fabia with 220bhp like you could possibly get any car with any amount of power dependant on finances (within reason) I dont think any of my posts have been unfair. Just confused......

EDIT - worked it out, Snoopy is back.

We had our differences and sorted it out, strong words were said both ways :D:D:D

Calm down i just wondered what the crack was with the Sachs as you tried to make me look stupid by rubbishing my claims when i read what you wrote in that thread, how was i to know it turned out to be the DMF, you should have explained this earlier on in this thread rather than trying to make a fool out of me

Damn Snoopy sounds like a real twonk.

Snoopie is a good lad and helped me alot with my civic.

(just so that people don't get mixed up!)

This is a serious forum and topic. Please keep this thread on topic... :)

Hi Everyone, my first post so here goes.

The clutch on my FABIA VRS is slipping once the turbo kicks in.

When revs hit 2000 rpm it slips then grips again at about 3500 rpm, do I need a new standard clutch or an upgrade?

I would state that you need a better clutch - There was one for sale in the "For Sale Section" I think. Take a look - Nice price.

http://briskoda.net/items-sale/sachs-02m-nearly-new-clutch-only-5k-miles/121029/2/

This may need a little more work to match your car - However I suggest you read through the post fully.

Hope this helps,
