Shell Vmax Diesel

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried this yet..saw it today near Bedford....but 6p a litre more than std diesel!!!....

I used it for about 3 months with 2 effects on my 06 vRS. Firstly, after 2 or 3 fills I noticed that the car pulled harder all the way to the red line. Instead of getting a bit limp wristed at 4000rpm it just kept accellerating as hard as it had been before. This was great! I have subsequently read on AutoExpress' website that the engine management system can retune itself a little to take account of better fuel - but it needs time to adapt to the fuel and the driving style.

Secondly, the stutter was massively worse on Vmax.

When I switched back to BP ultimate, I got the same top end engine response, but the stutter has now gone back to just being annoying rather than dangerous.

Have a go at a search before this starts another 4 page thread thats all been done 20 times before :D

There are plenty of threads about Vmax, Ultimate, Bio and all the other good stuff

Its not Vmax Diesel, its V Power Diesel, and it only went on sale in the UK on the 24th November. I had two tanks of the stuff so far, and its rocket fuel compared to BP Ultimate which I have used constantly for 12 months.

Meeh if they are going to start charging more for it i'll stick to standard derv.

Derv extra was nice as it was the same price as the standard derv.

Shell Derv Extra is cheaper than Tescos around here, so I know what I'm going to buy.

Also, the Tesco's stuff give out more smoke!

anyone know where the nearest V Power diesel to Bristol is ?

I loved this stuff when I went to Czech in September :D

Have a look at the Shell website, I think thay have a search facility.

Ooooo isn't that handy? One the stations that has it is on my way home... and I need to fill up... I feel an experiment coming on!

I have run Optimax and now V-power petrol in my 1.4mpi to good effect but also have a FIAT Doblo 1.9 JTD. I have run this on a variety of fuel brands and recently have had a copule of tankfulls of the Shell (normal) Diesel. Main snag is mega-smoke from the exhaust over 3,500rpm on full throttle.

I have now managed to get a tankful of V-power Diesel into it and it has cured the mega-smoke inside 50 miles!! Its my wife's car really so I haven't driven it since, so too early to comment on long term effects but all bodes well..

PS> I've previously tried BP Ultimate Diesel but it had no beneficial effects so I gave up.

I always use shell extra in my skoda as I've found it smokes less and gets better mpg than bp or supermarket brands, it's also cheap 9 times out of 10.

There is one near me, but its 98.9p a litre, interested to try it but I doubt it will be worth the extra premium.

Filled up with this yesterday. Could immediately feel the difference, a day on and it seems to pull much better and doesn't smoke now either.

...doesn't smoke now...

Awwwwwww... No more disappearing in the smoke screen? Awwww. Oh well... at least it seems to make you disappear that much quicker...

Yeah I've noticed there's not so much smoke now. Though the fuel economy seems to have dipped also, though that may just be my car. I plan to get it checked out this w/e.

Hmm, doesn't seem to have ventured further north than Ipswich yet!

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't placebo - takes at least 2-3 tanks for your ECU to adapt to it.

The nearest V Power Diesel filling station to me is 80 miles away.I'll wait until saturday and make a special journey. Then i'll pay the 8+pence per litre premium. Then I'll be dead chuffed when I get a negligible improvement in power/economy.Or not.
