Couple of questions

Featured Replies

Hello, I am not very clued up on cars so some help would be much needed! I have the PD100 model.

1. Im looking at putting the 312mm TT upgrade onto my car. I know that I need new wheel bearing housing L+R. Does any body know of a scrap dealers with a Fabia VRS in, or is there another model in the VAG group I could may be search for?

2. Will the calipers fit under my 17" RS4 replica wheels?

3. Are the Seat Curpa bushes really worth it on my car?

4. Can I fit the front Fabia VRS ARB onto my car? Does it already have one of that size, or one at all?

Thanks to all those that help

Shaun

In answer to Q4, the PD100 has a thinner ARB to the vRS so an upgrade should be worthwhile :D

Cheers, would it make a differance like the Jabba rear ARB did? Or should I stick with the one I have?

Sorry for so many questions but I have no clue. Ask me something about a push bike and I am ok.

Shaun

the Fabia doesn't have a rear ARB ,so fitting the Jabba ARB to the rear will be an improvement

fitting the Seat Cupra front wishbone bushes would give you an improvement to the steering feel IMO and stop some off the wandering that occurs under heavy braking , word of warning though i'm not sure they will fit in the alloy carrier as the PD100 may have a smaller bush ,someone on the Seat forum told me this so not sure on the accuracy of the info

Ah right ok, cheers for the bushing info. I have got the Jabba rear ARB on and it made such a differance, loving it.

The standard, rather tiny looking 288mm Fabia vRS front set up (the same as the SEAT Ibiza 130 Sport/FR and Golf VR6 iirc)

So could I look for these cars and use their wheel bearing housings?

Hi Shaun - you could use hubs from a Fab vRS, Ibiza TDi Sport or FR, or the Polo 9N GT TDI 130. EDIT: probably ones from a Golf Mk4 TDi 130/150 too? :rubchin:

On the bushes, they made a noticeable difference on mine, even when the rear ARB and suspension was fitted at the same time. I had front/front Cupra ones fitted and Polybush front/rear fitted. Less slack in the steering really. How many miles has your Fab done?

For brakes and wheels, I would have thought you'd be fine with 312mm calipers and RS4 reps, as long as the manufacturer is fairly true to the original design!

Front ARB - the vRS has the thickest one available, at 21mm IIRC. Probably worthwhile, although I have heard that fitted a thicker front ARB can cancel out some of the benefits of Jabba's work at the back. With that in mind, I'm going to stick with my standard 19mm one. Don't know what one they put on PD100?

Steve

Don't know what one they put on PD100?

I believe it was the same 19mm one, but I could be wrong :D Basically, if you're happy with the way the car handles then leave it be ;)

douglasvalley.co.uk had a Fabia VRS salvage vehicle on the 22nd November, as I enquired about how much the seats were (around £300 IIRC). Not sure what condition the rest of the car was in, though I think it was a front impact collision.

They also have a Fabia MPI on their list, if anyone wants new style rear lights, etc..

Ok cheers for that mate, have emailed them

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry to bring this up from the dead, but thought it would be better than a new thread. I am going to a large VAG breaker later today and was wondering about the hubs.

So any VAG car with 288 front brakes will fit?

Would the 312 TT hubs fit with 288 brakes? Just wondered as the 312 can be bolted to the 288 hub.

Or would the 312 hubs with 312 brakes fit in?

I have the 288 brakes but need the hubs as my car is a PD100 and has 256 as standard

Cheers in advance

Shaun

Having only just seen this thread, it might be easier to get complete front strut assemblies. Easier to change on a driveway in an afternoon. If you have any lowering springs fitted you'd have to swop them over, but i'd far rather do that than mess about pressing hubs out and risk damaging the wheel bearings...... (I am assuming you'd be doing the spannering yourself though.....)

Hope you get it sorted though :)

I have a friend that will help me do it, we have a large workshop available to use and plenty of tools. He does rallying and does a lot of spannering and knows his stuff.

Do you recon I would need a wheel alignment afterwards?

Cheers

Cool!! Does he rally a fabia?:D

Yes, i'd get the tracking checked afterwards, just to be sure and especially if you're taking the struts off to press the hubs out etc. It's always good practice to check anything you "might" have disturbed......
