Rear suspension groaning when going over speed humps in my VRS

Featured Replies

I have noticed a definite noise from the rear suspension area when i go over speed humps etc. Its not a squeak its more a dry groaning sound and i can get it to do sound best when it goes over a speed hump at normal road speeds. It doesnt make the noise when u drive over normal bumps and pot holes in the road.

Only thing i can find close to it on the search is possibly a loose bumper on the bodywork but i wanted to ask if there are any known faults with the rear suspension please

You need a rear ARB - go to the fabia section and check the link

On a serious note, could it be your towbar rubbing?

yep i do indeed mate since i had it remapped its only a matter of time before i bend something lol

Yes i was planning on having look at towbar bumper area as soon as i get time later in week.

Sounds like something similar I had.

Never did find the cause in nearly 40k miles :(

If you look in the area around where the taillight cluster meets the bumper, you might find that the bumper is making contact with either the light fitting or the body panel above it. Grab the bumper and give it a waggle to see if that produces the squeak. I slid a piece of transparent plastic cut from a blister pack between the offending parts to seperate them.

cant you move the light cluster up by untightening a screw in the boot and then nudging them up slightly and re tightening. mine does the same thing. so maybe it is the cluster. i will try this later

Its also not uncommon for the rear-beam bushes to fail. usually creates a similar noise.. maybe a bit worse when wet.
