whats happened to my videos settings

Featured Replies

just sat trying to watch some downloaded clips in windows media player

they have all shrunk to a small box which only shows a small section of the clip

and it s turned sort of green

any ideas why this answers on a postcard please

corrupt codec me thinks

if you can download the clips to the machine try running them from there. If still the same then click on start -> run then type in mplayer2 click ok and this will open the old version of media player. This uses the codec directly. Try opening the file in this and see if its the same.

If it is then go to VideoHelp.com and find the gordian knott codec pack. Download and install it. This should install all the codecs for the most popular video file types.

tried the mplayer thing got all the codecs i can think of its like the video pane is being cropped to a small square losing the outer edge of the footage and being turned greenish

just ran that codec pack no joy even nero media player is the same

all I can suggest is try the video on another computer. might be a corrupt file.

you could try downloading GSpot Codec Information Appliance and running it through that to see what codecs the file uses to make sure you download what's needed?

found the g spot lol

got all the codecs required

just uninstalled nnero 7 thought it may help

now all i get is sound

Sounds like the codec pack has made things worse. I avoid codec packs for this very reason, and only install what I need as required. Your original problem was most likely a case of changing the view setting in media player.

if i remember i t worked ok until nero7 went in

had all the codecs anyway but ran the pack anyway

when i uninstalled nero it went black

it seemed to crop everything at first to a small square in the middle of the screen losing most of the picture

i tried system restore but it wouldnt restore for some reason

Cant you just put Nero back.

yeah but its still gonna be cropped ill try nero 6

Try 7 again then check your view settings in media player.

See the screen shot below, this plays video large with no problem. Ignore that its wmp11 all versions have the same settings.
