60k service woes

I have my 60k service on my fabia Vrs coming up very soon and im just wondering is it worth getting this done at a main dealer or just go to local independant?

I am thinking i will do the cambelt at 65,000. I know the brakes etc. will need doing and don't want to have to pay stupid labour per hour so would it be best to go to a smaller garage or is the 60k a very important service and should be done by the main dealer?

It all depends on if your car is under warranty. I would go to Skoda if it is and if it is not. I would do most of the jobs myself to save a few pennies. Then go to a reputable garage for the work I cannot.

Skoda UK are now recommending that the cam belt is replaced at 4 years or 60K, whichever comes first. I know the service schedule probably states the belt should be replaced at 60K without mention of a time limit, but I think they must have had some failures in year 5.

As long as the garage is vat registered then you can go where ever you like (ie it won't affect skoda warranty). If it was me then I'd go to a dealer or VAG specialist. If the brakes need doing then go to somewhere like Protyre - MUCH cheaper than the stealers!

at 65K it will be out of warrenty any way (wont it?). As said above if VAT and the correct skoda parts are used it should be an issue.

have to say after my warrenty if out I will not be paying Skoda garage prices, I'll take mine to an independent.

I thought on the PD130 engine, the cambelt change came at 80k? 60k is simply another 30k service, brake fluid should be changed every 2 years and coolant every 4.

chris, when speaking to my dealers service manager I though the same thing that is was 80k, but he has told me it's 60k. I guess it's a case of getting the book out and checking for yourself lol

either way I'm not looking forward to it's 3 year birthday as I'm sure it will cost abit :rolleyes:

Yeah it was 60k in my old PD100 and that was an expensive service :(

I had so many different guesses on my Fabia vRS cambelt change, local (20 miles away) Skoda dealer, supplying dealer, more local Seat dealer and independent that I rang Skoda UK, gave them the chassis number, they checked and came back with an authoritative 67,500 miles - the fourth different figure out of five! So, I reckon somewhere between 40K and 60K should be OK if the cash situation is positive.

After this post I am now confused as hell:confused:

After several posts I thought the cam belt change was 4 years or 60k whatever came first, after other posts indicated a revision.

The reason I am queering this is because my Fabia Vrs is 4 years old next August, though at the moment has only 23.5k miles with full service history from Skoda (1st and 2nd year) together with 3rd year from Awesome Gti. The car is remapped and has a new miltec full exhaust on it.

A definite answer would be appreciated, suppose I could ring Skoda UK and enquire, but since car is not standard if the cam belt did snap I really would not have any recompense.

I've had the 60k done, at a dealers, and the cambelt wasn't done, on mine was due at 80k... mine is only 20 months old, so is still under warrenty, and yet the dealer (AND BLOODY SKODA UK!) won't do the the knackered suspension bushes under warranty anyway! because they say it's natural wear and tear! balls. not worth the paper it's written on :mad:
