Washer Fluid

Featured Replies

Whats the best stuff to put in my screen wash bottle?

The original skoda additive was very good, washed first time & dried clean & smelt fine,

my dealer doesn't supply any genuine products, and will only top up if you ask for a cost!

(does not supply any oils, wipers, top up fluids etc), even accessories have to be specially ordered.

so is it best to use ready mixed stuff like you get from Halfords or the stuff you mix yourself with water.

The front washers spray a fan like mist, very nice, but i dont want to cog the jets up with unsuitable washer fluid.

You can buy the Skoda stuff at VW/Seat/Audi dealers - it's all the same.

Cheers, i'll get some from my local Seat dealer

I use a litle bit of wash 'n' wax in mine and it is great,I pre mix it in a 2 litre washed out milk bottle.

Kev, is that added to the normal stuff or instead of the normal solution?

I just use the Halfords lemon undiluted one which does a great job (and smells good too!), or I have used Shell stuff which also did the job just fine.

I bulk-purchased this stuff from a VW dealer - they obviously wanted to clear their stock down for a new batch or something. Still working through that stock but I got it at a low price so I don't mind spraying the windscreen excessively now

I just use the wash 'n' wax on it's own, smells fine and will shift anything the road throws up.

Kev, thanks for the reply. I may try it when there's no chance of frost.

I have just had the "bling" Wash Fluid low - after reading the post regarding Skoda not honouring any claims thought I best investigate getting some official fluid from the dealer.

Any ideas of cost, i assume they are sold in 5 litres?

Been using W5 concentrate from Lidls for about 3 years.

Cheap as you like (69p bottle does about 25 litres), smells of apples and does a great job even in the cold.

The VW isn't bad though I think Texaco garages sell the small 1 shot bottles of it. It's bright orange!

I bought some stuff from a VW dealer (same stuff) - the one I bought came in 1 litre bottles ( I kinda did a deal where I took a lot of their stock, they wanted to clear it and I do a lot of miles & have Xenon washers to use it up). Still working through the stock :D

Unfortunately I can't remember the cost, it was not too bad though & you can get it from any VAG dealer, so Skoda, Seat, VW, Audi

Thanks - I have just looked at the VW site and found

Screenwash concentrate – 1 litre

All models 00V 096 320 A 020 £3.50

Wow thats gone up then, I didn't pay £3.50 for it.

You should be able to get 10% off for a taking a case of 12 too.

I have been over to my local VW dealer and picked up a litre for £2.40... he reckons I should dilute 25ml to 50ml water and should top up the bottle sufficiently???

I am sure the washer bottle will take more than 75ml to fill?

That's about what I pay Ray, been using it ever since I've owned Skoda's.

I have several spare empty bottles and mix it 4:1. Fill an empty bottle up to the 250ml mark and then fill with water.

Is it better than Decosol/Halfords own make/a.n other brand then?

It's what you are supposed to use with the fanjet washers. It is good and not expensive, I like it.

I did a search on here and got the relevant code for it. Popped into my local VW dealership the other day and asked for some washer fluid. The woman behind the desk said, Volkswagen?, Audi? or Mercedes? I said, Skoda :D <---- my face. Her face was the opposite, like how dare I darken their door asking for Skoda things

Anyway, £2.40 was the price and there is a little diagram on the back to tell you how much to dilute it. If I remember correctly the bottle will hold about 2ltrs.

Anyway,

REMINDS me! I need to stick some water in mine. Beeper went off a couple of days ago! Thanks. :D

[runs off to the garage]

I need to buy a bottle too, Ive only got the drinks bottle in the back which I can guarentee I will accidently drink one day

I just noticed this thread is in the Fabia section - I actually have an Octavia.

The £2.40 bottle from the dealers is 1 litre....

Dispensed 250ml of he fluid into the washer bottle, followed by a litre of water.... didn't seem to go above half way, so

dispensed another 250ml of he fluid into the washer bottle, followed by another litre of water....

and it appears to be nearly full...

to sum up - mixing at a ratio of 4:1 the £2.40 bottle will provide 2 refills.

As this is my first refill, and after 6 months and 4,500 miles I am happy to pay for the pukka stuff..

My fabia is coming up to a year old and this is the first time I have had to refill it. I didn't fill it up completely just in case it's done on it's first service.
