Fabia vs Seat LCR

Featured Replies

There seems to be a lot of big willy waving going on :thumbdwn:

The differences between an M5, LCR and vRS are pretty massive.

If you have a load of money and want a fast, comfortable and luxurious car then an M5 is going to be near the top of your list.

If you want a car that has big potential for decent money and reasonable running costs then I'm sure a LCR will be a good buy.

I myself am buying a fabia vrs because I want an economical car that the missus is able to drive whilst still being fun for me.

There is no point comparing cars so different, I wouldn't complain about being smoked by an M5 because its inevitable.

If you want a car to smoke an M5 then get an Evo and race one in the wet ;)

Great thing about 4WD is that you will smoke just about anything off the lights and in the wet.

From a track day last year, Where the rain had made such an impact there was just no grip, 4 wheel drive or FWD makes no difference ;)

Or rear wheel drive;)

My MR2 is up for some modding soon. Should get to 169bhp / tonne. Expensive mind.

Spill the beans about the MR2 then..

4 into 1 manifold (ceramic coated) high flow catalytic converter, free flow exhaust (already on gave +6bhp and +5lb/ft) and Unichip piggyback ECU with rolling road tune. Total weight off the car around 15kg, much of it from behind the rear wheels. The handling improvement from just reducing the weight and mounted height of the exhaust system is quite marked. Cant wait for the light manifold and cat.

Also, full size underfloor brace and front strut tower brace. Total weight on the car 6Kg. Mostly low down and all in between the wheels.

Low mass flywheel and clutch later in the year possibly.

Should spice it up quite a bit. Spend around

Sounds like a big project is up and coming then. I'm suprised you've not thought about a supercharger yet! .. Have a look into removing your scissors and clippers... they can all add up as weight! :P

Pretty basic spanner work. Remap will be from Engine Advantages in Witham.

Thought about supercharging but if I am spending that much, I may as well just go get a VXR220. Also under consideration is the 190bhp 2zz engine. I did drive a 203bhp turbo MR2 a few nights ago. It was pretty nippy and still deployed the power in a perfectly useable form. However, the car had wider rear wheels fitted to keep the power useable. Knock on effect was wider wheels needed to keep the balance at the front. This kind of lost some of the feel and agility for me. Good but not where I want to take the car. Increased unsprung mass is evil incarnate. Very effective car though, deeply impressive. Most noteable is even people who have gone up to over 250bhp are still finding standard brakes are up to the job on road and track!

As for the Clippers and scissors, titanium scissors and clipper pack form HDS with composite / aluminium hair dryer is on its way.

This was the only time I could outpace an M5 in the Scooby, but I suspect he was taking it a bit easy as he didn't want to bend his

RWD + Loads of power + Wet road + Driving Hard =

Unless you're a VERY good driver. Not surprised he was taking it steady

MR2s seem a bit OTT but my 2p...

Not that they seem too popular in the uK but have you thought of a supercharger as opposed to a turbo? A nice opcon or whipple would do wonders for it. :)

Over the top or off the topic:confused:

There are a number of easy to fit F/I options that will get the MR2 Roadster up to around 200 - 250bhp and some going up past 300bhp. Supercharging is possible but costs a lot of money. Main thing is that I dont really want to change the fundamental character of the car. I drove a 203bhp Roadster and although it was very quick and very entertaining, it needed wider tyres to tie down the power. The resulting change of feel changed the cars "up on tiptoes" slightly hyperactive feel, made it more tied down. Also, bigger wheels weigh more. Thing is, I really bought the car for its dynamics, not its speed. I reckon going +25 / 30bhp and + 20lb/ft with N/A mods will be fine, no real worries for the stock tyre sizes. Going further will be going in the wrong direction for what I like about the car.

So it is not for me, but having said that, a pumped and braced MR2 Roadster with around 250bhp per tonne is a cheap way to go worrying much more expensive machinery. To put it in context, the latest M5 is only 280bhp / tonne and the latest LCR around 170bhp/ tonne.
