Mystery of the missing GPS signal

Featured Replies

Got it, as promised, the next day, Chris.

Odd you've had to wait.

Ne'er mind, 'll come tomorrow (oops 00.25 hours) - today, I'm sure.

Yeah, when I am out for sure. Just a little concerned with the lack of communication from them. Possibly delayed if courier did not pick up. Dont suppose you remember which courier they sent on do you?

Chris

I think (but not 100%) it was CityLink.

I expect they (Talex or the Couriers) are mowed out with post Xmas buys.

Many thanks. Hope it turns up this week as I have a couple of out of the area drives on Friday, Monday, Tuesday and following Friday.

B0ll0cks to 'a good driver would no the speed limit.' There is no need to patronise me sunshine. A perfectly normal dual carrage way would for some reason be set to 40mph when I would have imagined it to be 60mph or more with speed cameras. Also I use the talex to give an accurate speed, I am not used to ever looking at my speedo for that information. All I was saying was it was eeary not to have the tools that I drive with everyday.

Of course I pulled over and stopped. But as I was having to drive from Essex to Devon I needed to crack on and not be f@nnying around for GPS signal that never arrived. In the past I have never had to wait for the devices to catch up with me.

Relying on GPS equipments to do the job of knowing speed limits and camera locations is all good and well but how do others manage on a day to day basis without? is a very poor "excuse" imho - now ill bet youve never driven a car without power steering and wouldn't have a clue how to stop without skidding in a car without ABS...

Your the main problem with motorists today - expecting everything else other than you to "take the blame" or do something to "help" you drive along unknown roads when it should be you doing so when "driving" in the first place...

You obviously made it to your destination and as mentioned try running without the itrip running and see if any luck...

Just my 2p...

Yes, if you can spot the signs in peeing down conditions, evening 3 lane traffic (i.e. sometimes the signs are blocked by vans and lorries), glaring headlights, and sections changing limits as many as four times in one mile + you're trying to remember / see the street names to turn off.

I think it's called information overload - and anything that eases this is a bonus in my opinion. Hence a Talex.

Example - a friend was done recently for 60 in a 40 zone. Goddammit, he explained, I know the damned thing is there - I was just thinking about something work-related. Basically he was driving on 'Auto' ? Most, I would think, of motorists do - such are pressures of everyday life. He's the one who demo'ed the Talex to me.

In truth, since I've bought it I've become far more cautious with speed - and yet its purpose was to let me 'enjoy' the vRS a leetle and to save my son from getting a 2nd ticket within 2 years (new driver).

Back to the thread :-

I too have done searches as to why the signals have been bad - but have seen nothing of note.

AS for that one - well your mate was letting the car "drive" in auto - hence he was probably reading a paper or on the phone no doubt - another prime example of a snob with too many toys...not paying enough attention to the conditions etc...

and as for your son - perhaps instead of giving the message of:

"here drive to your hearts content and this will warn you of speed cameras"

"dont drive like a **** as its your license - if you lose it or get pionts then dont expect me to help..."

then maybe he would respect driving and his license....

Since you're obviously Always correct and far too good a driver for all of us - have you tried the Polo forums ?

Do you not find driving at the speed limit is the safer option? for license and safety?

Do you have any points on your license? Are you seriously telling us all that you drive your modified Polo within the speed limits at ALL times? :rubchin:

It would seem to me the only person you're kidding is yourself.

Steve

It would seem that you all feel as though im always wrong with everything i say on here and yes i do use the polo forums - my point is this - why should i use a polo forum instead of this one when i have friends and a general interest in your vehicles on here to be always knocked back by a bunch of stuck up - polo owner not good enough for briskoda - type attitude....

Im not saying im THE perfect driver - but considering i do not use a road angel / tom tom or talex to help me know where speed cameras are and the speed limit etc - i would say that means im driving correctly - not relying on a satnav device...

Its not like in your driving test you can use one - and have some "help" to pass...!!!!

You pass because you can drive without the aid of such devices - not saying emily should stop using hers - but certainly stop making out her driving ability depends on it - thats just plain stupidity and dangerous IMHO...

OH and despite not using a road angel / talex etc - i have no points on my license and have never had an accident - am a 20yr old male - and used to drive motorbikes - which i feel is what makes a person a much better quality and observative driver....

Blah Blah Blah, you should have started your own post and then we could ignore your foolish ramblings! Back on topic, I have lost signal due to weather before and sometimes I think they just turn them off for fun.

blah blah blah - back on topic....

Pah

That's all you lot ever do - lock a post - ignore what i say - or dish out abuse / disregard for my comment - some real community spirit - nice....

Like i mentioned - i did start on topic - just everything i say was knocked back with abuse / general bad attitude remarks...

good effort...

DaveG40 must be the most angelic driver ever reading through what he says! Bet he never goes over speed limit by 1mph!

Anyway, interesting this about the sat nav loss of signal.

DaveG40 in your other topic I said that no one had treated you like a muppet, I apologise, they have treated you like a muppet, more than likely because you are a being a muppet, unfortunately not a very funny one :D hth

Oh im sorry postman pat - with his cat - he bought a jack and put in in his sack - you big gay lord - im telling my mum on you...

Bet my mums harder than your mum

PS dog ate cat, Jack fell out and broke his crown, and yes I am big hth :D

lol:rofl:

Are you all in England ?? as my nuvi has been taking longer and longer to find where i am (Scotland) the last couple of days but with the amount of shty weather we have been having was not really thinking about it...but Emily elizabeth i totally agree with you regarding the speed camera point ...i know where most of them are in my area and still forget about them when the kids are having a full scale war in the back seats....

Had no trouble getting signals with Tom Tom today between London and Blackburn.

There is in increase in chatter regarding UFO activity over middle england going up as high as Sheffield. They're already here but the extra activity is due to a full scale invasion.
