also i cant see the pics on the sticky for the wheels any ideas why?

the pictures seem to get deleted off , whether its something to do with people running out of space in their alloted attachment cache or they forget that the pictures are required in the thread

Why go for a VRS out of ineterst ?

Have you looked at BMW 1 series ? or even a Mini Cooper

Make sure you read the thread about the engine stutter before you buy a new one. In fairness, not all vRS's have the stutter in a really bad way, but a large proportion do. At the moment, Skoda have basically said there is no complete fix so if you think you might want to complain about it afterwards then you'll need some sort of written guarantee from your dealer that yours won't do it.

To avoid the 'stutter' you need to avoid anything Euro IV with the VAG 130PD engine. I would heartily recommend an 05MY Fabia vRS (Euro III) over a new one as they are properly sorted and don't stutter.

As far as leather goes then Seat Surgeons in York do a better job than the Skoda dealer upgrade and are only

Why should he look at a BMW 1 series or Mini Cooper? They are completely different cars to a VRS.

If you are after a new VRS then it may be better to wait for the new model (not sure when it's due to arrive though). As already pointed out, the current model has a problem with stuttering engines and in order to avoid this you need a 2nd hand car with the EURO3 engine.

Overall I think the VRS is a reliable car. The most reported problems seem to be...

- engine stutter on EURO4 engines

- poor quality seat cloth

- water leaks in the doors

The Xenons are a good buy, but as already pointed out you're better off going to Seat Surgeons for the leather interior.

Mini One is the only diesel which has a terrible power band, it's no match for the fabia in any sense.

BMW 1................well apart from it being alot more to buy then yeah it is a nice little car, very cramped for it's size though.

As for the question about any common problems apart from what PA has said there is alway the search button which is very useful. :P

Remapped fuel consum can vary depending on re-map and your general driving style. My mileage is 90% motorway in the summer I can average anywhere between 52-62 depending on my average speed and traffic. In the winter that drops to 46-56.

Thats based on a remapped car with forge intercoolier, Cupra intake and green cotton filter.

thanks evryone.

1. how do i tell if the car has euro 3 or euro 4 engine

2. i duno why i neva looked at them but id imagine they are both much more to buy and i dont like em (bmw 1 and mini)

3. my dealer has said if they fit the chip (upto 178bhp apparently) i keep the warrenty.

4. i went for the vrs coz it looks ace, goes very quickly with the potential for more and returns ace mpg while bein super cheap to insur compared the car iv got now- focus st170 group 15/16ins and 25mpg are killin me

Euro 4 engines were fitted from MY 2006 onwards, and these cars have colour-coded doorhandles; older cars (Euro 3) have black doorhandles.

Of all the bits added to mine, the Xenons and the rear Anti-Roll Bar are two things that get used every day and repay the investment.

so would u say that the xenons are a must then coz i eas lookin at 2nd hand buys and there is bargains to be had if i dont go for the xenons

If you get xenons make sure they are set correctly. Most are set to low incl mind.

As already said look out for Euro IV shutter models. The really early ones have a long gear box. Cruise is a very nice option and worth getting.

All remaps or any mods will affect SUK warranty.

You'll certainly notice the difference between a VRS and a ST170, they are very different cars. The ST170 is quicker and more of a drivers car, however you pay for it in insurance premiums and fuel. The VRS is a very good compromise between performance and cost.

One thing I would say is dude... please use your keyboard properly. As has been said by someone else on this forum... your keyboard won't wear out any quicker is you use proper English!

but a chipped vrs will be quicker than the focus will it not?

just read thru the stutter thread and im not clear if there is a fix for it or not, can someone give me definitiv answer plz

thanks

A chipped VRS may have more bhp and torque than the focus, but that doesn't make it quicker. I'd imagine the Focus would be quicker from a standing start, but the VRS would have the edge with in-gear acceleration. Perhaps someone else on here can add their opinion?

Regarding the stutter, I don't think there is a fix as such. There are modifications that dealers can make to reduce the problem, and it's whether you'd be happy with that.

Have you had a test drive in a VRS? If not, I'd suggest having a drive before going any further, especially if you're new to diesels?

Which dealer? - I really want a chip upgrade, but none of the dealers near me will let me do it!

Edit - thinking about it - don't type it here, but could you please PM me with the dealers details? Thanks.

just had a test drive and im well impressed. the power was awesome, id go as far to say its as quick as the focus in std trim. much more comfy and steering alot lighter and alot alot smoother. as someone else said its not as much a drivers car but i want one.

are you aware of the stutter issues on the euro 4 vrs? just sumfin to bare in mind but not all of them do it, how about a Seat Ibiza Cupra 160 Tdi? i drove 1 at the weekend and it put a smile on my face, lots of fun and Seat Racing Brakes 2 boot and nice 17inch 5spokes

The BMW 1 is *much* more expensive. It competes with an A3, not a Fabia...

I haven't seen second hand 116 or 118s go for less than 12K in the local car press , and thats year old + cars. Having said that they are 'supposedly' a Golf / Focus sized car , and I reckon you'd need the 6 cyl M Sport one to make it a fun drive.

I had a 120 as a hire car. It was an auto , thirsty (25-28mpg), the seats were crap (a 500 mile drive crippled me), and it had less room than the fabia. It handled *really* well though. I reckon a 120D with the sports seats would be OK, but you'll pay a lot for one of those. More than a new Fabia vRS, I reckon.

I done a quick Autotrader search , the cheapest 120D I found was just under
