Tyre choice for 1.9TDi

Featured Replies

I need new front tyres for my 1.9TDi (90bhp) as the MOT tester passed them but advised they would need changing soon (getting a bit slippery out there as well). It is currently running on Pirelli P6000 Powergy's which have lasted 20,000 miles. I have had Dunlop Sport tyres before which only lasted 10000 miles on my Pug 306 diesel (I have 2 dual carriageway roundabouts on my way to work) so wasn't impressed with the life of those but impressed with the grip so any other ideas?

Cheers

Ian

I'm running a set of Toyo Proxes T1-R, very good grip - not sure on life yet but I rate them highly

Others seem to like Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s, Pirelli P Zero Neros and many more that I can't remember

Depends on what you want, grip or tyre life

On my TDI which is now parked for sale, i have Goodyear NCT 5's, the tyre choice of the local police traffic cars, i think they are brilliant for grip but do wear down a little bit quicker than other makes. But safety comes before money in my opinion. Eagle F1s are another good tire that Ive had in the past.

BF Goodrich g Profile on my 130 pd , lots of grip and after 17k miles still lots of tread , very quiet as well and a decent price

Michelin Pilot Exalto 2's running them on my TDI, good grip, esp in wet and i think good tyre life too. :)

I had some Yokohama tyres on my Octy and they seemed to last very well and gripped nicely too , especially for 65 quid a corner

I had some Yokohama on mine - can't remember the model number off hand... seemed to be ok though - done about 35k miles now, but soon to need replacing

Having had some fairly dire Dunlop SP2000Es on before, I'm now massively impressed with my Michelin Pilot Primacy HPs. The difference was like night and day.

Conti Eco Contact 3! The best tyre yet, low noise, better MPG and tons of wet grip! Wear is above average too and there only £45 for 195/65/15's on your TDI!

Goodyear Eagle F1's up front on my TDi, highly rated, although I suspect the wear rate is going to be frightening. Then again, the Bridgestones that were fitted from new didn't last that well on the front considering how noisy and the small amount of grip they offered.
