VRS Brakes

Featured Replies

Having gone from a 1.9TDI Fabia to a VRS Fabia, I find the brakes are not as good, as the 1.9TDI, they lack bite. I will be consulting my dealer as it has now done over a 1000 miles. Comment's please.

Thanx

Have you had a go at bedding them in? :D

Chris

The VRS is a 1.9TDI  . I find the VRS brakes to be pretty good, centainly good enough for a standard car. Like Chris says, unless they are really bad, give it some more time and see what happens.

What I was really getting at is that pads, if not used hard, can glaze over which takes the sharpness off them. Doing a few hard stops from high speed should remove any glazing and make them more responsive.

Chris

agree with the above , sounds like they need a good smokin

Make sure you don't over-heat them!! Also, allow them to cool off (sedate driving for a while, using them as gently as possible) before parking the car up for the night. If you don't, they may glaze over again.....

Rollerskate, as you're not too far away, take a drive down the East Lancs road when it's quiet. As you're cruising in the 70MPH sections, and despite nobody else being on the road, the traffic lights will inexplicably always turn red meaning a full on, all loose items hitting the dashboard stop. At each and every set of lights. I found it helps my normally city burdened brakes no end.

That's a classic viz style top tip.

Reminds me of my personal favourite that was for people feeling depressed............. If your feeling depressed don't top yourself...... You invariably end up dead.

Cheers

Dave.

The brakes are good, just need a good push, for how quick the car is, i dont find them as sensative as id like, but i had to wellie them other day, due to a female driver doing her make up or somthing and cutting me up, firmly planted my brakes and it was no issue, but they do feel underpowered, my friends are the same on his Ibiza FR TDI.

I know what you mean, they are in some way so smooth, they seem not to be that strong.

I find when the discs are really cold, the brakes need a second to warm before really working. Try it, with a constant brake press - and you'll feel it getting stronger.

I tend to use my brakes as little as possible, and just use friction etc to naturally slow down, so my pads/discs are still like new after 20k.

Interestingly had a bit of alloy cleaner on the disks the other day, washed off, and boy a big improvement - maybe there is a bit of gunge to start.

Yes, do be careful about smoking your discs, as they do look naff when heat scored.

Also, if breaking really hard to bed the pads/discs, don't come to a complete stop - as you can leave a composite generated through high temp on the disc, and it's harder than the pad or disc.

Hope this helps, D

Mine lacked bite in the early days, and the dealer agreed, so I got a new servo and master cylinder under warranty.

They still weren't 100% until one day I washed the car and left it overnight to let the discs get well rusty before driving it. Next morning, the rust took contaminants and glaze off the pads/discs and they were fine from then on. This may be worth a try as a free potential remedy.

My brakes seem fine in terms of power and feel but the rear squeak is really beginning to annoy me. It only happens at low speed. Am i right in thinking that there may be a brake modification the dealers do to fix the rubbing. if there is does anyone know what fix as a dealer i spoke to months ago noted that it was a common problem and there was no fix.

Thanks

Do a search for "mooing" to find the part number required.
