Keeping the Octy!

Featured Replies

Well, I have had some resolution with the issues I have had with my car.

Some of you may remember the threads I posted about it having history (stolen, recovered) and damage which was not recorded on HPI (cosmetic).

Then I posted about the condensation issues I have been having - heavy misting, even ice on the insides of the rear door windows  .

Coupled with tyre wear (which I thought was excessive) and vibrations when braking (through the pedal and wheel) I had the car back at the dealers from where I bought it.

I really had lost confidence in the car and was thinking of a replacement but was waiting until I saw what happened when it went in for investigation.

Well it went in yesterday, and I got it back last night.

The condensation was being caused by water leaking in from the rear light cluster seal - this is the area where the accident damage was. The cluster has been resealed and so far, so good!

The brake judder has been resolved by the dealer skimming the front brake discs which was done at no charge - this has improved the drivability no end!

They have said the tyre wear is not out of the ordinary, and after discussions with various 3rd parties I am willing to accept this. IT is around the outer edge of both fronts, moreso on the n/s/f but i have been told this is not uncommon on high power fwd cars - my only point of reference is my Honda Prelude which had 4 wheel steering so probably didn't work the fronts as much as the Octy.

Previously the car was given a full inspection by the dealer and the chassis has no marks on it, and they concur that the only real area of repair after the stealing incident was to the drivers o/s/r wing.

I was around 80% sure I wanted to keep the car when driving home last night, but they have an 04 plate Fabia vRS in yellow on their forecourt so I got a trade-in figure against this and it was quite good.

I went out for a test drive in the Fabia today, and was very impressed HOWEVER, in my opinion, and for my needs, it just does not measure up to the Octy.

It's the little things for me like the leather, rear electric windows, cd changer, climate, and the way the Octy just feels a lot more substantial on the road (if you get what I mean!), coupled with the bigger interior and boot.

With the money I would be losing on my car, and the cost to buy the Fabia this would total around

Good to hear Steven, hopefully now you can enjoy your car.

Glad to hear all is hopefully all well again! Good choice with the rubber, I can highly recommend the F1s.

Steve

Glad to hear all is well... start enjoying it now!!!

Glad to hear you're keeping the car. Let us know how the new tyres perform and if they improve things.

My 2 front tyres are quite worn on the outer edges, moreso on the near side. Nothing to worry about, probably PAS and all the power going through the front. Due for replacement soon.

Could be down to a soft sidewall also allowing the tyre to 'roll' on corners?

You won't regret the F1's in my opinion they are the best handling mod that you can do to your car followed very close by ARB's then coilovers, I have now got 18's on my car and am going to try a set of Pirelli P Zero Nero's ......just because certain members on here swear by them as do others by the f1's:thumbup:
