VAG com, power and torque?

Featured Replies

Pardon my ignorance:) but can the VAG com diagnostic computer measure power and torque and if so is it more accurate than a rolling road knowing that rolling road figures can differ from the same car on different rollers but do measure the car under load :) :)

depends on the car software. I know my Diesel Octavia shows up torque, but does not specify where from although you can get each cylinder.

You can get the torque from some other cars, but not all. BHP is a nono, although I think it may be in KW.

vag-com does torque and rpm, you can work out bhp from there (bhp=torque*rpm/5252)

So in theory, an insurance company could easily tell if your car has been remapped from standard?!

I've a friend who's an accident investigator for an insurance company. They DO check EVERY time there's a serious accident and they have all the toys to check very easily. Remember, they are looking for reasons not to pay out - different wheels, springs, large stickers (WHY??) are all reasons they may not pay out.

Moral of the story - tell them before they shaft you

Yes! And the tools to do this and readily available to Joe Public, so as Steve said, it'll be a small outlay for an insurance company if they can void a claim!

But not necessarily from this method. This requires a 'power run' in the car to log the data.

Simply driving a mapped car will elude to the fact.

as andpandypoos pointed out vag com can find this data out !!

So if my:) friend :) got his car chipped and the car was serviced by a SKODA garage and vag com was used to interrogate for faults it would be plain as day the car had been chipped ,also the insurance investigator could find out as long as he could still run the engine:eek:

I would never do such a thing of course as mine is still under the SKODA waranty:D

No it wouldn't. For a start he main agents don't use VAG-COM, secondly the map shouldn't cause any fault codes so there would be nothing un-toward to see.

It would be immediately evident on test drive or if parameters such as boost pressure of timing were logged.
